Not to be a debby downer, but something like Player Auctions is going to cost you more than 2b/500$. The main page is complex as is, and then to have a SECURE and efficient checkout system takes lots of work. I'd be willing to take on the project for 4-5k, but anything lower than that and it'd be a loss to me.

The SSL certificate alone could be in upwards of $2500. If you're interested, let me know.

Actually it'd be $1600 for just the files itself, done by professionals of the highest standard of course.
    @ OP:
I can do this for you, all I require from your for the site itself is a clear image of what you want your site to be and how you want it to work. Preferably a .png image of how you want the index (homepage) to look like (must be .png as transparency plays a part of how the aesthetics look). I'll take into consideration image loading times and so forth, the quality will be of a good standard in my opinion.
I'll require half payment first though, the reasoning to why this is :
I don't want to start and you to cancel, also I'd like to be able to buy some things with it. A incentive is only good if you can taste it while you work for it.
Lastly, I'll pay some of my 'friends' to help me out with the lacky side of the job.
50% payment on the dot first, then another 50% after I have hosted a copy of the site for you to test and so forth then you will receive the files. You and I (assuming you hire me) will be closely working together on the project to ensure that the website turns out just the way you like it.

I agree. Let alone the certificate and the massive amounts of database work that would have to be done. You may be looking at 5000+ for something as large as a playerauctions type site.

Now, a simple cms/forum style with buying/selling and bidding shouldnt be too difficult and probably could be done for around $1000.

$500 would certainly get you some nice graphics though. And 9/10, the graphical appeal of a site is what sells it. (look how interesting sythe is compared to craigslist.......)
