Whats so good about aleinware?

I went into the city today into this computer shop to look for an new fan for my computer and this guy tried to sell me an aleinware...

I kept telling him I already have a computer but he would not give up so I listened to him for about 20 minutes about how good this computer is ($3500 he was asking) and my computer at the moment is 10x as good as this aleinware and I kept telling him this yet he wouldn't listen so I ended up just putting the fan I was going to buy down and told him I would go else where..

So why is Alienware worth so much considering I can build one a hell of a lot better for almost half the price?

 

Alienware, it is one of the actual high ended branded. With warranties available, so it saves you if a part breaks. Then unlike the others the parts are built to each other, depends what kind of Alienware.

I'm going to honest in my opinion.

Nothing is good about alienware. Yeah, it was good as a kid. But now? no way.

 

That was my thought, it would have been alright when I didn't have a good knowledge of building computers, but now I know I could build something with better specs they honestly seem like a massive ripoff.

 

The old Alienwares were decent, but now the pricing is ridiculous and the builds themselves aren't really up to standard any more, you are paying more for the name than the build itself now. I recommend you look for building your own, you save money, have the ability to build exactly what you want and you can gain some experience if you build it yourself.

 

You're paying more for the name/brand than anything in my opinion.

My friend could build a nice PC for less than $1,000 and have it run just as well as an Alienware would.

 

there isn't anything special about alienware you buy it for the looks thats all if you want to pay a few extra 100$s for some LED lights by all means go for it.

 

It was good until Dell took over, now it's a part of Dell, so screw that.

Before that, they built good gaming laptops.
But buying a desktop instead of building it will always be a waste of money and performance.

 

I feel like you could set that up on your own pc though if you built it yourself... Right?

 

Well, they have cool rainbow lights and stuff. Also, it's like having a nice looking car that doesn't have jack under the hood. Yeah it looks nice, yeah it'll work, but the fact is that the car could be much better if you just cut back on some of the body work in exchange for a new transmission or a supercharger.


Basically, if you want lights and shit, go with alienware. If you want power, anything else.

 

I own three. All laptops. Desktops aren't worth it because of the ability to build your own. Laptops though are fine if you don't mind spending maybe one hundred bucks on the looks. I paid 1200 for a m14x with many upgrades. As for it being a dell automatically making it bad that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. I have owned one since 2009 and the only time I had a problem was from lightning striking my home or dropping it and the warranty replaced them both. At least you get power for the money you spend unlike MacBooks.


Speaking for laptops they do have power for what you spend. Desktops do not.

They also have great running deals on laptops.

 

Just because your computers are 3 years old does not make alienware impressive. I have a dell and a gateway both well over 8 years old and they still run fine doesn't mean they're any good lol when talking about computers its always best to go white box. from what I have noticed in my experience they all pretty much do the same if it says it will do something it will do it and for a long time as long as you don't abuse it so cheaper is generally better.

 

If you want lights and shit, buy a case similar to alienwares or make your own custom case, you can actually buy led cases that look a lot better. But the premium ranges from $200-$2,000 on their comps, something you could pay to build for $1200 would cost $3500+ from them. The parts are usually low quality too.

 

Why do you buy cars? You can easily make your own vehicle for half the price of a new one now adays. You are paying for ease of purchase. People who just want to game, and don't know a ton about computers are what these are aimed at. No need to try and findout if all the parts you picked out on newegg on the fly will work together, or if they will even run the game you want.

 

It's not a good comparison at all.. Building a computer requires zero knowledge beforehand, ZERO. They come with MANUALS and it takes at most 2 hours for a beginner and like 30 minutes for myself..

Finding parts and getting the general knowledge on what to get only takes a few days, compared to fields with unlimited knowledge constantly expanding, it's a bit less of a challenge to jump into.

But as you said, it's for people who are too lazy, and too ignorant to bother.

 

I was going to say the same thing. I'd like to see the poster you quoted put a car together from scratch without any info on how to do so. [ I won't be gettign in it lol]

 

Search google for replica race cars or slc coupe. Sold as kits for half price of a new car with instructions and manuals. And they go 0-60 in 3 seconds.

 

I'd love to buy one of those, but it's expensive. Building from junk yards/ebay/craigslist is far more cost effective.

 

They are super nice, and if you were to buy the razor, formerly called something else, can't remember right now, they are actually sort of cheap compared to new cars. Maybe 27K for a fully built one. And that is for a car that can compete with cars that cost 150K+.
