    Moped/Scooter

Okay so im from New York State, i have a 2001 Chevy Malibu and its getting me like 16mpg in the city.. its not in that bad of shape either.

However i have been looking at moped's and motor scooters and the ones i've looked at get like 100+mpg but only go like 30-40 MPH however i would only be driving locally and it complies with all the local and state laws.

Does anyone have a moped/scooter? how is it? I feel like people say it's uncool to drive a moped but it gets awesome MPG and i think it would be cool to have one.. my girlfriend is going to get her own car soon as well so she would have a car if we needed to go anywhere together or if i needed to go on a road with speeds of 40+

My point is, would it be worth it to get a moped if i could get a good price? i don't know how many miles they last either so if anyone can help answer some questions that would be awesome! Thanks!

I used to have one before I was old enough for a car license. The one I had was a tomos lx and it was really uncomfortable and had annoying problems. I think you're better off getting a motorcycle or scooter. It'll probable be cheaper and about the same on gas.

You could, depending on your age and laws in NY, get a 125cc scooter instead of a 50cc? It would have a bit more power and still get decent MPG. 100MPG+ is about right though. They're usually quite cheap to ensure too.

anything over 50cc i would need a motorcycle license, and i don't want to do that cause it takes forever haha unless i pay like $250 and get it done in one day

If your fine with driving a moped and it's cheaper that way, then why not?

It sounds like you're totally looking to replace your current car with a moped? I'm not sure I would do that bro, you're essentially going to be relying on your girlfriend for any type of real commute...which I think would get real annoying after a while for both you and her!

Anyway, Ive had a handful of off brand 50cc scooters/mopeds/mini crotch rockets. They were really a lot of fun, and sometimes a pain in the ass!! The first thing I would suggest for you is getting a 4 stroke engine...just to make life a little bit easier for you!
4 stroke engines you can fill up right at the pump! Whereas 2 stroke engines you have to mix your oil and gas in a container then throw it in your gas tank...not the worst thing in the world but filling up is made a little easier with 4 stroke.

I also noticed my 2 strokes were more finicky than the 4's...mainly with problems starting. 4 strokes also sound way better in my opinion! Also 4 strokes get better gas mileage than 2's.

4 strokes tend to last longer, and are usually bit a little more robust! I guess there's a reason nearly most motorcycles are 4 stroke vs 2!
