How should Adrian Peterson be punished?

Adrian Peterson has been accused of child abuse early this week and now will not play this Sunday, due to the fact the NFL/Vikings need time to come up with his punishment, how do you think he should be punished? Does his rank as one of the NFL's best runningbacks effect his punishment? Does the sensitivity of Ray Rice's case have a play on this?

 

His career is over. Good riddance.

 

With what happened to Ray Rice, this gets very tricky.

I haven't read enough about it to know how serious it is. I'm thinking 8 game suspension minimum.

 

I agree that it will only be a certain # of games suspension, however what also must be considered is that if AP gets away with say an eight game suspension, I think that the public will go ballistic and blame it on his high position in the NFL. Because in the end, what did AP do that Ray Rice didn't? Both types of abuses in my opinion are equally as bad.

 

His career is far from over. He will be punished 1-2 weeks I believe.

 

I haven't found any info on the charges the NFL are making against him, but in my opinion 1-2 weeks is extremely low. If Ray Rice's NFL career is indefinite at the moment for domestic violence, theres no reason why AP's punishment should be 1-2 weeks for child abuse. That's basically saying that child abuse is nothing compared to domestic violence

From the pictures and speculation it sounds like Adrian Peterson was disciplining his child but took it too far. I'd say he's gone 1/2 the season tops but am thinking the punishment will be lighter than that.

 

Deserves so much prison time it's ridiculous. It's one thing to hurt a man, but to hurt a child like what the fuck...

 

Same thing can be said about the Ray Rice situation, child abuse is not legal anywhere in the US. AP deserves the same punishment as Rice

 

Bit Ray Rice had a video come out on him, plus AP was supposedly raised like that. If your hit with the belt as a kid and it leaves a mark, should your parents go to jail?

 

They apparently had photos of AP's son whipped too, and if AP was raised abused growing up, doesn't mean that his parents went to jail, but child abuse is illegal. It can be argued that Ray Rice grew up in a violent home too, but none of that matters since both people knew it was illegal and immoral. Ray Rice could have said that he punched his wife to "teach her a lesson", but that wouldn't be acceptable in our society

He spanked his kid with a switch. You kidding me? If he gets in trouble, 50%+ of parents should be in jail.

if you look at the pictures, it looks like AP took it too far. He had marks all over his arms, body, and legs seems pretty grusome. Ray Rice punching his wife (and her head hitting the side of the elevator which caused her to be unconcious) is bad too, but all I'm saying is that AP deserves some type of punishment. Shame they are letting him walk since he is 90% of the Vikings offense.

Feel bad for the guy. He was the one guy that got caught doing it and now has to pay. Unfortunately it's a normal thing in black culture to switch your kids. That's how they're brought up.

It's common in the South to be brought up with reasonable physical punishment, which is why in Texas i'm pretty sure they have a law saying that physical punishment on children is okay as long as it's not bad and reasonable (a spank for example) but whipping your kid with a tree branch until their are marks all over his body is overdoing it. Peterson got what he deserved, doubt he will come back this season

How is it stereotypical when numerous black NFL players spoke up saying it happened to them and they know of many others? Lol. Not stereotypical/racist one bit mate.

He should be given another chance.

 

Black NFL players don't represent the entire south/black community. I'm pretty sure theres only like 1 player and 1 announcer who defended Adrian Peterson, but the majority of the people disagree with his actions (and so does he). Yeah, I agree that AP should be given another chance since this is his first offense, however I think if he should get a chance, Ray Rice should too.

 

He punished his kid by hitting him with a switch. Just like he said his father did to him. I haven't seen the pictures or anything, so maybe he took it too far, but it's not even close to what Ray Rice did. I'm not condoning his actions, I just don't think the two issues are comparable at all.

If the NFL wasn't drawing such negative attention to itself with this whole Ray Rice situation at the moment, AP would miss a game or two maybe. As it stands, I think they'll suspend him 6-8 games at most.
