Outcome of the staking glitch

What are your thoughts on what will happen to the economy in Runescape if there were to be a mass ban of all the people who abused the bug during the past few days?

I would think that a lot of gold will disappear from the game. I feel that this MIGHT make the RSGP value (RWT) a bit higher. On the other hand, a lot of people lost a lot of money, so this means that they wont be able to buy anything in the GE regularly, causing a bunch of the prices of items to drop.

What are your thoughts?

There was/is a glitch that lets people change the rules during a glitch.

 

People would be able to pretty much do whatever they wanted regardless of rules being set. (prayer, food, weapons, magic).

 

Doubt it really, I think most gold is in investments. Stakers have a lot of gold, but I think they have a lot less gold than some of the rare merchanters.

 

The people won't be banned. They haven't in the past and they won't be this time.

 

Well, since there will be many abusing this glitch, I doubt Jagex will ban them...

And Stakers do have a significant portion of gold in rs so the economy may get a minor dent.

 

Would you know a reason to this? (Besides losing a lot of members).

The effects on the economy due to a mass ban would be quite interesting. I have no doubt that tens of billions of GP was obtained due to this glitch, and I'm sure that would have a fairly significant impact on the economy, atleast for the short term, if all of that cash was to suddenly just disappear from the game.

Most of it is probably being rapidly sold right now though. I know that if I was one of the bug abusers, I would not be holding on to much cash after this glitch.

 

Noone will get banned probably, wouldnt be suprised to hear the abusers got their gold zeroed though. Would be pretty funny!

 

Well technically the bug is Jagex's fault. I think it would be a little hypocritical for Jagex to ban members for things which they themselves could have stopped, had they simply taken a little longer coding the update.

 

I just said fuck it and risked my close to comp cape main, 100's of people including atleast 4 Pmods reported me, Can't care, And doubt anyone will get banned.

 

I wouldn't expect every staker to instantly know this let alone be on sythe.
But we never know, wait until the future brings upon.

Let time play out, I highly doubt there will be many banned ... Only some that abused it very heavily or intentionally showed that they wished to abuse and spread it. Only time will tell.

 

well just un dude got like 3b off of it so id say gf maybe? but I'm sure easily 100B+ was gone because of this, would of been so good if no-one leaked it, but I don't think they could reset so many accounts they have already lost so much of their player base already

 

Nothing will happen to price of gold this isn't the first time a glitch has made billions. Also it's rare that glitchers get banned, specially with staking glitchs. If anything it may bring the price of gold down due to glitchers are mostly rwt'ers and there's going to be a lot more gold for sale

How did the bug exactly work? Anybody know?

 

It involved a 'dummy' account and the squeal of fortune wheel. You had the dummy account challenge you and then you clicked the squeal of fortune dialog shortly after you accepted the challenge. It would close the duel screen on your end but not on the dummy's, and while you went off to find more stakes, you could change the rules of the new stakes using the dummy's duel screen
