Drawing: Practice over time, or natural skill?

Here's a question.

Do you think someone who has never been good at drawing can learn the skill, or do you think that it's a skill someone is born with?

Neither? Both?

 

I think you learn, because the older you get.
And the more you draw, the better you will get.

 

I think it's something you're born with. Although practice obviously does improve your skills.

 

Essentially anyone not suffering from some sort of condition disabling their ability can "learn to draw". Natural ability determines how fast one will excel, different methods in which they can learn said skill, their style and how far one can develop that skill.

 

I started drawing in 9th grade. I have perfected my drawings, and now I'm quite good. I used to suck at art in general and now I just finished my custom XBOX.
I think with time and practice, you can learn to become a great artist.

 

You're born with the talent, but you can build on it through practice.

 

You can learn it, but it's easier to learn with some form of natural ability.

 

You have to have a little bit of natural talent, most of the time if you have an attraction to something you've never done you have a little natural talent for it.

 

Both of course. I know people who hardly draw, yet are amazing at it, and people who practice a ton and are amazing at it.

 

It's not so much learning to draw, as it is learning to put your ideas onto paper. Or for some people, even coming up with ideas could use practice. I think that people give up in learning to draw-- giving the excuse that they obviously aren't born with the talent-- because they aren't willing to improve their creativity, as well as their drawing skills. It's not so much about making marks on the paper, but knowing what each mark does for the image in your head.

I think both. You can get better, when you draw more.
Though you need a bit of talent.

 

You are born with it.
But you might be able to learn it, just like you learn math, grammar etc,etc.
But for the people who are born with it things like that are easier and learn it faster.

 

I think it's something you have to have a natural talent for in the first place, to be great that is. You have to be creative and have your own style. Obviously with practice, you will improve over time but those with the natural talent will always shine through.

 

It really all depends. For example, when I was in 6th grade, I really started liking graffiti and the style of it, according to most people I talk to, and people who see my graffiti, I'm very good. I'm not going to brag, but yes, I think of myself as a good graffiti artist. However, if you were to put a piece of paper in front of me and tell me to draw a person doing something, you can forget about it. I could draw you a stick figure if you would like, but I couldn't draw you a "good" person. I started out doing graffiti just on a piece of paper with a sharpie, I now have my own wall in my backyard that I use Krylon Kingz graff. spray paint on, and just use a paint roller over it when I'm done. I probably have a new piece on their atleast once a week. This wall is about a 6x8 chunk of plywood. So, to answer your question, you can train yourself to get better at something, and you will be good at it. On the other hand people are just born with a natural talent of things and will just be good at it forever.

You got it, or you aint got it ^^

 

Depends if you have the ability you could have a better start and build on it. If you don't well its going to take time and practice.

 

Depends creativity is something your born with BUT after countless hours of practise I'm sure anyone would be able to grasp the ability to draw a portrait.

 

I know that over time, you can learn to draw. If you put enough time into a single drawing of a still life or something, you start to notice shadows and highlights that you would never have noticed before. And once you know what you're looking for, you can apply the same concept to anything that you draw.
