Games Discussion

My idea is to make a category called Games Discussion and replace the sub-forum from off-topic. Now that LoL is the most played game, it would have a lot of more topics than it currently does on off-topic, as a lot of people don't even know that it exists, and also remove the 'Runescape' category and put it as a sub-forum on the games discussion. RuneScape would be the first sub-forum followed by LoL, WoW, DotA 2, Fps Shooters and so on. I know that runescape is what this forum is mostly used for but that's a game too and I don't think it has anything more than the other games.

 

It used to be like that, it should be moved outside of the Off Topic section as it doesn't really fit there. People continually say we should move away from Runescape as our primary game, but to do that the games discussion section must be visible. Support.

 

It used to be in it's own section but was inactive hence why it was condensed. You can't move from RS to LoL as a primary game because RuneScape has a huge black market because of how the game works but LoL doesn't.

 

I'm not saying that we should move from RS to LoL, that's why I said that RS would be the first subforum there but I don't see why runescape would need to have its own category if there are other known games aswell.

 

Oh just re-read the OP. The Games Discussion should be moved out of Off Topic imo but Runescape should not be condensed into Games Discussion, it has a shit load of traffic still. Perhaps condensing it from 7 sections down to like 5 or so would be a nice idea however.

 

That's literally what we just changed. It was a separate section and n4n0 and I merged it into off topic. I think it fits fine there, but we'll see what Ryan has to say

 

And I don't see how it is off-topic if this is a blackmarket about video games.

 

That's exactly how it's off topic, this is a black market, not a videogame discussion forum. Runescape gets its own discussion because that's the main theme of the site, along with the market aspect, but eveyrthing else really doesn't have much to do with the forum's purpose besides the video game aspect

 

I don't see how games that you have a market for would be off-topic for discussion, but that is how it works I guess and I agree that it is RuneScape based but I thought if RuneScape is slowly dieing it would be a good idea to start promoting other games & markets aswell, just before it is too late. I like how the LoL market was implemented for example, but people aren't going to start playing that if they don't see any guides/discussions about that. If a section about this can't be done at least move it to somewhere where it would be more 'visible'.

 

Just because there's a market for a game doesn't mean there's discussion for it, though. People sell a shitton of Microsoft Points, but even when it had its own section, Xbox discussion was not active at all. I agree LoL is different, there's a lot of good conversations on that subject, but separating that would make for way too many sections again, a problem we tried to fix by merging games discussion.

 

Aha, alright than I didn't know there was no more space for more sections. But still, would there be any way for it to be more visible? Any ideas?

 

Well, it's not that there's no room for sections, people were just complaining that there were too many, so we decided to consolidate OT and games discussion. It wasn't met with much enthusiasm, as you can tell... Maybe we need a new solution. Maybe a whole new structure to the forums, besides sections, subsections, and child forums... I like what was suggested a whole ago, where we change to a sleeker interface where markets, discussions, tools, and OT are on separate pages. (Runon sentence for hell, soz)

That looks like a good idea. Would that fit for smaller screens/phones though? If that idea gets denied, moving Market Tools under Off-Topic seems like a good idea to me aswell. I don't see why those tools should be that high tbh. And also, moving the Games Discussion right under General/Off Topic and/or Something For All seems more fitting to me if nothing else can be done.
