I don't see how someone using HD textures (that only they can see) ruins the integrity of 07scape.

 

Even having the option to turn it on for yourself is already an advantage, you can also change the view distance on that client.

Also a good thing to note is that the founder of OSHD is the FOUNDER of PARABOT.

View distance is already implemented in every major rs client (It also provides minimal benfits). Clients already offer way more advantages over the official RS client other than View Distance.

I honestly feel like just as many if not more people would have preferred a 2011 scape server over 2007. Myself included. 2008 HD graphics would satiate much of the itch I have for a 2011 based game though. The thing is Jagex was never going to release a server so close in date to EOC. They'd basically be fully admitting they fucked up.

People are complaining about Jagex considering this already. It would be a toggle option...it wouldn't affect you at all if you didn't want your game to be hd, you could still use the standard graphics. Odds are Jagex wouldn't bother anyway.

 

Jagex would be stupid as all get out if they didn't push this through as a toggle imo. One considerably large niche player base that still doesn't play the game are those wanting the 08-11 aesthetic (people between RS3 and OSRS). This pretty much delivers that. Does not further break the community into factions either.

I know my itch for a 2011 server would cease almost completely if not eventually completely if this came to the game. The client looks amazing.

 

I also believe it looks pretty cool, but this is one of those things that would be a fairly unnecessary update concerning dev time, especially if it doesn't pass a poll. There are intricacies that would take A LOT of testing to make it official client worthy. In the mean time, it's a neat third-party client.

 

Jagex could probably make a monetary offer on the code and work off of that, so I doubt much dev time would be needed, plus then it could be ported over naturally to the client as a toggle - which is what I'm hoping for, I'm too paranoid to use third party clients, even if they're amazing.

As far as polling, no way that doesn't hit 75 percent. The reddit reception on that client was immense. That is the graphics that a lot of people hold dear to heart ,myself included. Granted I love 07's graphics too, so a toggle would make everyone happy.

If it stays as a standalone client I'm not so sure I'd use it :/ . Plus the fact they want $$ to use it (or use certain features), I don't think I'd use it.

I really wish Jagex would make them an offer for their hard work and then implement it in-house.

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm with you on it, just not sure if Jagex would bother with making an Official patch/update on it. I've played since '02 but enjoyed the '08 era the most.

Oh yeah, never said/ meant to imply you were wrong about anything man, just giving my 2 cents as well. Sadly with how disconnected Jagex has been recently with the community in both versions, I'm not too optimistic myself. It'd be a damn shame if this went to waste.

Or maybe I'd bite the bullet and risk it on the new client if Jagex green-lights it.

Praying to the Runescape gods they let it pass. I wish they would integrate it into the official client.

 

1000 percent this, I'm always weary of those third party clients. Call me overly cautious, because I am, but all it takes is one lapse in security to lose it all. These 3rd party clients scare me a bit. I'd love an official toggle to never have to worry about it. But it's Jagex, so who knows.

Seems like the OSHD devs never even sent the code to Jagex? I'm a bit disappointed but not really surprised that this is how it turned out.

 

That's unfortunate. Any particular reasons why it wasn't approved? Can they make modifications?

 

Jagex requested the OSHD client code so they could see whether it would be possible for players to use it without falsely triggering their bot detection, but never received it so they can't verify how safe it would be to use the client. They also mention future game engine updates that would break the OSHD client. There's likely some issues of legality with stolen IP which is why the OSHD devs never sent the code.
