Spore: Biggest dissapointment of its time?

I clearly remember how hyped up the game Spore was by EA. It was marketed as a game where you start your species as a tiny cell, and then evolve and work your way towards becoming a universal force to be reckoned with. As a middle schooler I was so very excited for this game. No one had ever done something so expansive and deep before.

Unfortunately, when I spent the $60 I had been saving for months on launch day, I was severely disappointed. What the game turned out to be was a linear piece of crap that consisted of a few stages that were more like glorified mini games, and to make it even better, it only took a few hours to reach the final, endless, boring stage. I was so disappointed.

Did anyone else share the same fate as me?

 

I remember the hype, never actually played though.

 

I never realised it was that hyped up. I only played the demo where it let you create monsters and shit and I found it really cool, although I was a lot younger at the time.

 

The space age is the only one I enjoy a lot. I wish I could just skip the other stages and just play the space stage.

 

I think once you've gotten that far once you can make a new game and skip ahead, but I am not 100% sure. I never got that into it.

 

I enjoyed the cell and the space stages alot actually. The civilization stage was a big fail. IIRC you could start a new game at any stance you like, you just dont get certain abilities.

 

Some of this game was pretty good. Civilization was terrible though. I myself also enjoyed the space stage.
