On a budget - Whats a better college under my belt?

EDIT: My top two choices were UCLA or a New York University

Looking to transfer to a college out of my town (Pref a University and not a State)

Looking for a school with a great medical department, pref one for the oncology/pediatrics department

I am looking to get a Microbiology major/Music Minor and I looked at the UCLA tuition and I just don't think I can afford $30,000 a year

I currently get a free ride at any city college

I have a disabled dad but do not collect yearly revenue from SSI cause I didn't file and my family gets $50,000< yearly income.

What would be a good university with the priorities I need?

    I live in California

You can take the free ride at college for a year or two, but I suggest you go to the University. Try to get grants if you can but you'll probably have to live off of loans. Get a job during summer and do your best in school because there is no cheap way out. But it's worth it if you snag a great job.

    Well lets see ....

There is Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana
There is Baylor University in Houston Texas
There is UNC in Chapel Hill North Carolina
There is University of Washington in Seattle
There is University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia
There is as all of us know the Great Harvard University in Boston
There is my Future school as of Aug 24,2013 Johns Hopkins In Baltimore, MD rated one of the best medical University in the World. Only enrolls 500 students per year with a full time tuition of 44,100 (full time) with 6 specialties of Pediatrics, Women's Health, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Drugs and alcohol abuse and AIDS.
There is also University of California in San Francisco

Well I hope this helps you let me know if you have any questions.

    (Fellow Bio Major)

Ill tell you a bit of what I did fresh out of high school when I could not afford college tuition. I started out at a community college where I took all of my basic courses and worked a part time job. I saved all the money I could and lived off of student loads and the money I would get at the beginning of the semester which was FASFA reimbursements. My first one I used to buy a cash car so I could get to school work and home after doing that for about 3 years and 8 months I graduated with my Associated Degree in Bio. By then I had only saved up about $11,000 which still was not even a quarter of my college tuition. After that I started to go to a Low Profile University called Lamar University in Beaumont Texas to further my studies. At the time I was working a fast food job only making about $9 an hour 4 years went past and I received my BACH of Science in BIO. By this time I had only about 22,000 saved which was about half of my Future college tuition I kept pushing for more and more success with my job now that I had graduated college. I always smiled everywhere I went and let people know that even though I was fighting for my dream and nearly falling short at every corner due to financial issues I was not going to stop. Working by day and night I finally saved up about 30 or 33k and Applied for UNC in which I was denied due to lack of studies. So I was forced to quit my job and take up a lower paying job as a ER board director at RCU which is a Class V hospital in Paris France where I had to go and study abroad after doing this for about 2 years and gaining some experience in a hospital Facility and draining most of my saving from 30ish K to about 24k I returned home where I sat on my ass for about another year or so thinking about how I could get accepted into a medical school broke with not enough money to register or the academic grades to be accepted by dean. Finally at the age of 28 a BREAK THROUGH from RCU came they granted me a grant of 50k that could be used for my college tuition. With a GPA of 3.8 coming out of a Low Profile University I knew it would be impossible to get accepted into Johns. After soul searching I posted a post on Facebook about my problems and it just so happen that one of my long lost Aunts was the Chief of Pediatric Surgery at John Hopkins Hospital and a Board Professor and proposed a sincere level of Achievement for me to the Board where I finally was accepted to Johns. I will be attending this Month to start my Internship under Dr. Rosie M. Auzenne.

Well I hope my story motivated you to be the best that you can be a strive for greatness money is not always needed to achieve high goals you have set for yourself. Just be patient and strive and vow to yourself that you will never give up on your dream.

I'd stay instate. Out of state tuition is ridiculous, and if you're looking for a good university Cali's not a bad place for it. I'd suggest finishing your AA at a state college if you can't get the grades for a scholarship. After that, move into UCLA or another top notch school with the program you like :)

Nice to see another micro major ! = I wanted to get a job this summer but my counselor told me not to because I was already enrolled in 3 classes for summer and wanted me to test ride it first time (Got a B,B,A in those classes). What loans would be great for me to apply to because someone told me about the Direct Subsidized Loan and it only gives $5,000 so would I be going through Bank Student Loans and repaying those off?

Thank you for the list!!! I was struggling to find something like this! Baylor seems like a great school (terrible location though) but would it cost more than $23,000 yearly for myself if I live out of state? Thats the part I am scared of because schools like UCLA (just as an example) if you live out of state, they jack up the prices.

Harvard and Stanford are my dream colleges but I know I won't afford them so I don't even look in that direction

Well if Money is the issue you would probably be better off going to Private Medical Colleges such as:

Baylor College of Medicine (TX) $30,068 18 24

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (PA) $30,887 RNP* 62

    Mayo Medical School (MN) $35,960 27 19

University of Pikeville (KY) $37,450 RNP RNP

Lincoln Memorial University (DeBusk) (TN) $39,245 RNP RNP

Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine--Virginia and Carolinas $39,530 RNP RNP

    University of Miami (Miller) $41,415 51 84

Mercer University (GA) $41,757 RNP RNP

    Wake Forest University (NC) $44,696 46 19

    Medical College of Wisconsin $45,179 51 55

There are loads of there man you have to think outside the box. Like I said there are also Medical Colleges abroad in other countries. All of them are not private but they are cheap medical colleges are really hard to find with low tuition. SHSU is a good one its not a medical school but it will get you where you need to be. Sam Houston State University in Huntsville Texas.

Thank you for all the info because I genuinely needed it. I will be checking out SMSU/Baylor and comparing them to some of the instate universities. I can't go out of country because there would be no way I would be able to handle it, I am growing up but I havent even been out of California and if I move into Baylor University then my family could drive there but we aren't rich so they wouldn't be able to fly back and forth ya know?

Can I message you sometime if I ever need help between deciding on which colleges, this goes for you too sypherz :) You guys are going down a similar road as I am going and would be nice to get some experience to help me out

Be sure to tour wherever you wanna go and decide which you like the best. Use the internet to find places you might be interested in and then check them out.

In the real world, nobody cares where you went to undergrad. Go where you will be happy and thrive.
