[Guide] Basic Guide To Football/Soccer [Guide]

    Basic Guide To Football/Soccer
    ______________________________________

Introduction - Hey, this is my fourth guide so far. I was around half way to doing this guide two days ago until my computer suddenly restarted it self and I lost everything. Then, I gave up and now I might as well try and write the whole guide again. So anyway, as the title states, this is a basic guide about the sport Football/Soccer.

In this guide I will show you the basics, rules and a lot of information about Football. I'm going to try and make this guide as interesting and packed as I can since this will probably improve my chances of getting into the User Education team. Anyway, I'll start with saying just the simple and most important rules, in the list bellow.

    • Play fair on the field and not dirty.
    • Play to win the game, but accept the loss if you are beaten.
    • Stick to the laws of the game.
    • Respect everyone playing in the game, treat then as you wish to be treated.
    • Have a good match and promote the fans interested.
    • Keep yourself away from drugs, racism, violence, etc.
    • Help others follow the same rules.
    • Don't be distracted by others who do not like Football.
    • Use Football to make a better world.

Now, onto the basics. Football is a game where two teams go head to head and try to score more points. Each team will have eleven players with substitutes. The match will last ninety minutes and consists of two forty-five minute breaks (half time). Obviously, to score a 'goal', the team must hit the ball into the opponents net.

Football is played on a natural or artificial field, artificial being something like AstroTurf. The field that is played on is rectangular so it can be easily played on and is symmetrical. If you want the maths part then the fields dimensions are 90-120 metres long by 45-90 metres wide. And if you want some more, then look at the list bellow.

    • The Goal Area is 5.5 metres from each goalpost goes another 5.5 metres out.
    • The Penalty Area is like the Goal Area though it's 16.5 metres from both of the goal posts and 16.5 metres out.
    • The Flag post is placed on all the four corners of the field, with a quarter circle with a 1 Metre radius.
    • The goals have 7.32 metres between each posts and reach 2.44 metres in height.

Now, as you've probably guessed by the picture, were moving onto Referees. These are people who will follow players around the field and decide the outcome of fouls, etc. Though, it may sound easy, being a Referee can be quite risky and you must be fit since your running up and down the field. It's risky because of the players, read on.

For some players, a decision could turn against them and they could get a little annoyed (saying the least). On some cases, players have been known to burst out of the Referee and start punching/kicking him, etc. So, if people want to take the job that's a risk they must always be careful of and try not to get into any fights or maybe riots.

Also, there are assistant referees. For these people, there jobs are to either decide about corner kicks, throw-ins, goal kicks and so on. Obviously, this job is much safer since they are not in with all the players, they stay on the outside and observe. If they do notice anything, they have a multi-coloured flag that can be used to draw the referee's attention.

Because of the many recorders/Filmer's at the match, the Referee can easily ask one of them to show what just happened and most of the time, he will have the overall decision. So you could just say the assistant referees are just there to point out to the Referee things he has just missed. Though, they do also sometimes get to decide, just not all the time.

Okay, now were onto the Kick off. If you don't know what that means then I'll sum it up for you - The beginning of the match. To decide who kicks off first, both teams will pick a side of a coin and flip it. Obviously, who ever wins gets to choose. The captain of the team who won the coin flip gets to also choose which end to attack first.

If the team who won the coin flip decide to choose which end to attack then the other team will then be allowed to choose whether to kick off in the first or second-half. A kick off can also be used once a goal is scored. The team who did not score the goal will do the kick off as a sort of advantage since the other team have just scored.

At the beginning of a kick off, both teams must be at there half's of the field. Though, two players from the team that just let in a goal/starting the match get to stay in the middle. At the middle, one player will pass the ball to another, the one who currently has it will pass it back then the game will either continue or start.

This rule can be decided by the Referee or decided/spotted by the Referees assistant. Though sometimes in may be an easy decision, other times in can be quite difficult and may take a while to come out with the final decision. To be obvious, a player could simply hit the ball into an offside position which is easy to decide, unless you don't know them.

Or as a difficult decision, which is shown above, there could be three players from one team in a row, with two players from the opposite team, one of either side. Since there are three players from one team in a row, if one of the players from the other team tries to pass the ball over to the other player it would be off-side.

Though, you can only be off-side when you are in your opponents side of the field. When in your half, you could say the "Offside Rule" does not exist. This also means that you cannot be penalised for anything like a goal kick, throw in or free kick, etc when you are in your own half. If someone did penilise you for this, there either high or just forgot.

Now lastly, here's Punishments. Punishments in Football can be given out for many reasons. All fouls are mainly awarded a Free Kick, unless the foul was committed in the penalty box. This means that the team who did not commit the foul will be given a penalty kick. Also, a card may be given out. Yellow as a warning red for sending off, read the list bellow.

    • Yellow Card - This is a kind of warning to the player. If he/she is given two of these at the same time it results in a Red Card. Read more bellow.
    • Red Card - The Red Card or two Yellow Cards (same thing) means the player is sent off the field. This is the worst warning and is given to extreme offences.

And that's everything that I'm going to say. I hope this guide came in handy and has understanding or a better understanding about the game of Football or as others may call it, Soccer. Please try to leave good comments and definitely do not spam or it will be reported. Rate from 1-10 and try to leave a fairly long comment.

Ok ill give it an 8/10 because from what ive read most of it is correct but not specific enough like "the Referee can easily ask one of them to show what just happened and most of the time" i think thats what the linesman does?
