Mention the sniping of names in the Sythe rulebook.

A few days ago I talked someone out of sniping a name. (by hand)
He did not know it was not allowed as it was not mentioned in the Syth rules, he said.

I looked it up, and he was right.
It is NOT mentioned anywhere in the Sythe rules, yes this falls under scamming but I feel it should be added.

 

I agree that the staff should make their official position clear in the rules.

 

They definitely need to add not only that, but a definition of what sniping is...

The point is the name sales should be more confidential. Not just post in Sythe Selling X name so everyone knows.

I find it retarded that people are banned for a rule that is non-existent.

Also, people have many different definitions of the word "sniping".
I think this should be clearly defined if a rule is created.

This just goes under scamming.

As soon as you snipe (Basically steal) someones name which has a value whilst you know it's for sale,
you're scamming property of value from someone.

Ive never sniped a name in my life but how is it scamming? its unfair but its also unfair to RS players when you buy gold ETC

 

You're stealing something that belonged to someone else. If you're stealing Gold to sell it on Sythe, you'll be banned as well. We're cheating, but we're cheating in a fair way.

I support this as well, discovering it might be hard and harsh, but haveing it as a bannable rule would just throw the extra brick at them.

I'm pretty sure we've had members banned for sniping; its simply left out of the rules because its very seldom that evidence can be provided.

In most cases a "sniper" probably wouldn't end up selling the name back on this market anyways. I would speculate that most of the users who would be banned would be users who unknowingly bought a stolen name and attempted to sell it back.

 

IMO, this is a moronic rule. You are saying that if your name gets sniped, you can call the police and file a police report for theft? I think not.

 

I don't know who exactly, but I know someone has been banned for sniping names.
So I don't see why it isn't in the rules.

no, your actually not stealing. there's nothing in the RS rules about it and everyone knows if you change a name anyone can take the old one, its a risk that comes with buying a name unless you don't think before you buy it.... as i said i don't think its nice, and i certainly wont do it but its far from stealing. you can compare it to picking up something someones drop trading, its not nice but you should know the risks before you do it!
