So you're probably aware if you're British at least, that in Sept 2014 there will be a referendum of the Scottish electorate regarding Scotland becoming separate from the UK.

I doubt there are a plethora of Scots on Sythe but I'm assuming the English/Welsh/Irish at least have some sort of interest in the matter. If not, then they're probably ignorant to how big of a deal it could be for the UK as well as Scotland. It's all fun and games to slag each other off but I really think something like this deserves seriousness at the very least.

Anywho, to the point; does anyone else feel underinformed about both sides of the argument?

The only sort of decent content I've seen is on now at.. 11PM at night and is basically one representative of each side squabbling like schoolchildren. I think it's embarrassing on both sides' parts that they can't sit down together and outline in black and white what each decision will mean (in simple terms that your average person will understand) rather than just trying to put each other down. I also overheard that no decisions are final until the result - so.. wtf? How can an informed decision be made.. on the FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY and the remainder of the UK.. when we don't even have final, outlined prospects.

The YES campaign released their white pages.. 600-odd pages of 650 questions.. your average person in Scotland or the UK isn't going to read 600 and something pages on this just to understand (if they can make it past the political jargon).

Based on this childish, unprepared manor that all the politicians are following, both MP's and MSP's, I'm extremely heavily inclined to vote no. Why risk it if we don't even know or have facts about how Scotland can or will survive, whether we'll get EU/Nato membership, what currency we'll use.. ?

    /rant, what do you think?

There are too many unanswered questions in the matter at the moment. You can't just jump into change without a long term plan. Plus their olympics teams are shit enough.

    Roary minirank plz.

Reminds me of when Quebec had a referendum in the 90s to separate from the rest of Canada. It failed(obviously) and no one has really mentioned it since. Now the french just push their shit culture and language on the english until we get fed up and leave. Tentions have been high since the 70's and now more then ever. So i guess i can relate the the situation a bit in the UK.

I'm under informed about the Scottish independence movement, but I don't see Scottish independence as a way forward, I can understand some nationalists in favour of separation, but for the majority, I don't think the vote will go in favour of independence.

Something similar is the EU referendum, that has been promised for the next parliament (if Cameron and his mates get in again, I think that was the clause of the agreement). I;m in favour of the EU as a concept, I just disagree with a foreign power (Eurpoian Parliamnet) having a governing power over a countries judicial system (as as been noted in the Abu Quatada extradition battle).

When you can't extradite someone from your own country, you have a problem which needs correcting.

Do immigrants get the chance to vote roary?

kidding; but i'm strongly supporting no and that is coming from a proud, relatively nationalist scotsman. The country works better together while retaining devolved powers that hit home. You've no idea the crisis we'll be in with the proposed budget with employment especially going into the shitter. We'll also have to essentially 'start again' on a world stage, Join the EU again, god knows that's a nightmare and most notably we'll have no were near the national intelligence Britain has.

all in all, why change something that isn't broken? Devolution has been a huge success in Scotland but independence is a step to far. if we vote no, it can't get worse, if we vote yes, it certainly can.

current statistics show 29% in favour of independence, but it begs the question who voted in a nationalist government? I think devolution is key, we have alot - but further tax and budget freedom should be sufficient to see off independence for another 10 years.

The 'fix' for me is more power for the Scottish parliament once we get rid of Salmond. IMO he's just a greedy fuckwit that's blinded by the thought of leading a country and can't see that it's just not possible to go it alone.
