There is no magical glitch that disables your prayers, so either you ran out of prayer (Smite), it protected something else in your inventory/equipment screen, or you simply were to slow to put it on, even tough you think you did...

You don't understand that since the update was recent, it was a chance for a glitch, not something technical that he didn't do or did.
