This is the exact type of thing we're standing up against. These people don't give a shit about the general public. This country is moving closer and closer to a police state every day and things like this prove it.

I don't want to cause arguments with other members of Sythe. But this sort of policing is needed in the UK. I have a pending application to be a Special Constable in the Met. Police, and I have gone through all the levels of public order training. Therefore I have an insight to what force the police are allowed to use on the public and still be considered "reasonable".

Obviously the second tear gas was not called for. But the problem with UK policing is that officers, especially the TAU they have the fear of being SUED when applying this "reasonable force".

The whole world witnessed this when barely anything was done to the "Rioters" this previous summer. Havoc was unleashed on the streets of London, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool yet the police did not do what they could have done, to their full potential, to keep the threat posed by rioters to a minimum.

I understand that the second tear gas in this clip was unjust, but maybe the first once was needed to control the situation? Maybe the first one broke up a fight between the demonstrators, and that it was not intentionally thrown at a persons face.

I am not fully aware of what has gone on in Oakland, but what I do know is I wouldn't be complaining if they were tear gas thrown in the Riots, hell they would be the only two tear gas canisters deployed in the whole of the Riots.

That is my opinion anyway, don't hate on police at times like these, the MAJORITY do what they can to keep the peace. Its just the odd one like this plonker that takes it one step too far.

so what your saying is, an accident should be thrown out of proporsion <-- spelling?

and can be used as the new Carebear AD to draw attention, now i was not there but i highly doubt it was inntentionly shot at his face. This is just something the hipsters want.

Shouldn't be rioting in the first place if your not willing to sacrifice.

There's a difference between rioting and peaceful protesting. That tear gas was intentionally thrown into the group of people helping the wounded individual and it's clearly visible on the video.

If 1600+ people want to stand in the street, obviously it's not just a couple radicals and they should be allowed to. The government doesn't like it so they use force to put a stop to allowing people to do what they want. They're arresting people by the hundreds in Chicago and other cities for peacefully occupying a PUBLIC park that's paid for by them, past the closing time that the city put on it.

And to manygash, they weren't rioting, and there was no need to keep order. People (the government specifically) just don't like what they're doing so they try to stop them and make up any reasons they can to justify it.

I honestly disagree with how the police and state / country and dealing with this situation. But also we have a long long long way to go until we reach 'police state' status. The occupy wall street movement i feel is a good idea just terrible terrible execution.

if police are given too much power they will abuse it, the riots where a result of a police shooting which killed a teenage boy.

Same thing happened a couple of years ago in Britain when an elderly man was shoved over by a policeman and died.

The police are protecting the general public. It is the occupy protesters who do not give a shit about the general public. The protesters don't care if businesses in the area they are encamped in are losing money. They do not care about people who would like to visit the park without listening to the protester's bull shit.

Shit heads who agree that the USA is a police state do not even know what a police state is. The protesters have been warned repeatedly ahead of time the police would use tear gas to clear them out. The protesters refused and guess what happened?

One word can describe the people of the occupy protest: Morons.

The general public are the ones out there. You don't think 15,000 people who want to stand in a park should be allowed to because 10 people wanna sit down and watch birds? The businesses make plenty of money as it is and you don't think the people in Occupy are buying shit? Of course they are. I was at Occupy Chicago and people were bringing bags and bags of food and groceries to give out to the protesters and homeless people. They had to buy it somewhere.

Nobody said the USA is a police state, but the way the government decides to deal with shit is making things like this more and more acceptable. This is completely against their constitutional rights. This will keep happening more and more until it's almost expected for the police to react with force to this extent. There is nothing wrong with what the protesters are doing and the way the government and police is responding to these protests is a violation of our guaranteed freedom of assembly and right to petition government for redress of grievances.

One word can describe those against the Occupy movement for no apparent reason: ignorant.

    http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...nows-not-what-it-does-hurting-local-jobs.html

OWS is hurting local businesses in some areas. Just because some people bring groceries from home does not indicate the OWS is helping local business. One OWS protest actually split into two factions because they argued on how their donations should be spent (The 1% of the OWS rofl).

The police are enforcing the law. Like it or not the people empowered them to do so. The rights of the protesters to assemble is not being infringed. The OWS protesters defecate in the public parks, vandalize, consume and sell illegal drugs, and are violating other laws. How do we deal with this problem? Ask them to leave nicely and the OWS refused to do so. The police warned them of tear gas if they did not but OWS refused to do so. The OWS protesters are not a victim of a police state.

The ignorance of OWS protesters is just astounding to say the least. They are a loosely organized rabble and a public nuisance. I was listening to some of their rants and they are mostly stupid. The OWS being endorsed by people like Michael Moore and the KKK made me laugh.

It's not anyone's fault that SOME of the local businesses aren't doing as well. That's cash donations you're talking about, which when compared to actual item donations is small. And the items donations are being used how they should be.. How else can you use a bottle of water or a cheeseburger? When money is involved, people argue; simple as that.

The fact is that the government and everyone who doesn't agree with the protesters are trying to use the law against them when that shouldn't be allowed. If the people empower the police, explain why the people don't want others to be arrested but it's still happening? Because the government wants what's best for them. Most people actually support the OWS movement.
    http://www.theatlantic.com/politics...ccupy-wall-street-taxing-millionaires/246963/

I also like how you only point out the "bad" groups supporting OWS. You never seem to mention any of the good ones such as labor unions, veterans, teachers and teacher unions, police and police unions, as well as many notable celebrities (not only Michael Moore -.-)

It's their right to assemble peacefully and no matter what they're doing (as you specified, defecating in the park, vandalizing, and selling drugs; which I feel you pointed out just to give everyone else a reason to have a problem with them [just as the government is doing], regardless of whether or not EVERYONE involved is doing those things[which they're not]) it is still non-violent and within their constitutional rights (which are being violated.) If it's bad enough, arrest the individual; but don't generalize the motives of the whole group because of the actions of one person, that's ignorant.

Is it right to tear gas a group of people because one person shits in the street? Didn't think so.

Whatever you want to think is up to you, but don't get mad at people standing together collectively to achieve a common goal that, in the end, will benefit you too.

Is my democracy getting in the way of your business? I'm sorry that its so inconvenient that protestors are flexing their right to peaceful assembly. Occupy Wall Street protestors have been incredibly considerate, as evidenced by them cleaning Zucotti park, and the good neighbor policy. Just because a homeless person shits in a burger king near occupy wall street, doesn't mean the whole movement is comprised of vagabonds.

Zucotti is also a private park. It is the perogative of the park owners to allow the protestors. If you are angered by the occupy wall street presence, complain to Brookfield.

Businesses aren't losing money.... Zucotti has become a major tourist attraction in NYC, food carts have been set up all along the park. Now, I bet those carts are stealing the local restaurants's buisness. But hey, thats capitalism.

First off, you're forgetting "these people" are people. Even if there was some crazy scheme among the elites, which it's clear there isn't, do you really think the police would listen? Of course not. The average policeman cares a hell of a lot more about society than the average person or the average protestor there, I guarantee it.

Also, this was an isolated incident. Maybe the policeman is crazy, or maybe it was just in the heat of the very heated situation, but you can't use one example to call our country a "police state".

Thirdly, this has nothing to do with what the protestors are protesting against...

    *facepalm*

Zuccotti Park is no where near OAKLAND CALIFORNIA where the tear gas incident happened. New York is about 2,500 miles from Oakland, on the other side of the country. You do know there are other dumb OWS protests going on around the world don't you? Zuccotti Park was not tear gassed so congratulations, you are a typical American with no education in geography. You can't even spell Zuccotti right so I don't know what else to tell you other than the public education system needs to be reformed.

Your communism is getting in the way of my business. The socialist programs some of the OWS protests want more of will just dig an even deeper financial hole. The US government is already in a big hole. There are multiple OWS protests, all with different messages and ideas. The loosely organized protest is just so ridiculous. My personal favorite message is: "the people have the right to print more money". I got a real laugh out of that.

Some of the changes the protesters want are just completely asinine. All of those people do not realize the implications those changes will have or do not care. I agree with some of the messages I hear, but most of them I do not. The OWS protest is just a sea of human stupidity ... and feces.
