    Obstacle Courses

Hey everybody, I just thought I'd share this with you guys and see how many of you share similar interests or involvement in this sort of thing:

    Obstacle Races

    What is an Obstacle Race?

    Reasons why to compete[/size

I speak on behalf of myself in this category (Reasons why to compete) when I say that there's almost no reason why you shouldn't challenge yourself and sign-up for an obstacle race! Not only do you get a sense of self-accomplishment that is almost incomparable to most things in your everyday life (which is also another great thing - it takes you out of your comfort zone and puts you into a race where many other people too feel the same level of discomfort as you do!), but it also challenges you physically and you end up pushing through things you'd never think were achievable. I don't bring up obstacle racing in my everyday conversations, it's not necessary - to me it's one of those things you do for yourself, not to impress other people, but to enrich your own life.

    Races I've Done and Recommend

In total I've done three organized races, two of them being obstacle races. The two obstacle races I've done were organized by the Spartan Race staff, which do a fine job in my opinion. I did two races from them, the Spartan Sprint (3+ miles) and the Super Spartan (8+ miles); The Spartan Beast (12+ miles) and the Spartan Death Race (48+ hours estimated completion time).

If you're interested in some obstacle races, check out these organizations:

    • Run For Your Lives - A 5k Zombie-infested obstacle course, I'm signing up for this right now!
    • Spartan Race - Many different events throughout many different states and at various dates.
    • Tough Mudder - A 10-12 mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces, self-claimed "Probably the toughest event on the planet".
    • Warrior Dash - I honestly feel this course is less intense than the races created by other organizations because it has age divisions rather than randomized heats, but don't forget, until you've actually ran and completed an obstacle race - it is not to be fooled with, they ARE extremely challenging.
    • Also check out Mud and Adventure, an obstacle-race directory for States in the USA.

Hopefully I've interested some of you in possibly signing up for an obstacle race! If any of you have ever completed, or attempted to complete, an obstacle race - feel free to share your experience on this thread!

    Always the best,
    Philosophic
