They're saying it's just a satellite. But, even if it is, it's highly unlikely that North Korea just wants to explore space. Their economy isn't strong enough to waste that kind of money on something so trivial. So, we have to assume that if it's a satellite, they want to use the launch as practice for launching a missile. Or, if it's a missile, we're assuming they want to bomb some major city in South Korea.

Either way, we don't want them firing whatever it is.

Under international law no they can't do whatever they want. Letting a hostile communist country still at war with South Korea (The Korean War never ended, hence the DMZ zone) launch up to space really messes with international security and safety.
Its serious stuff. I know someone who was schooled in South Korea, they have racks of M-16s in high schools and all the kids are trained on how to assemble/dissemble them and use them in case of invasion. And what sin said, their limited funds are not going to explore space, they'd just leave that to the U.S. and Russia.

I care? Hmm, if we get nuked I don't think we will be moving. We will probably be dead.

And I'm terrified if it really is a missile. I think we should shoot it down, or just tell them they are not allowed.

The US wouldn't be the target, since they pretty much have to stay close range. But, if they were to hit South Korea, we would have to step in and retaliate.

As for shooting it down, that may start a war anyway. They do have other resources.

"North Korea's announcement has triggered international consternation. U.S. and South Korean officials have long said the North is actually preparing to test-fire a long-range missile under the guise of a satellite launch."

They are making Long-Range missiles. If they can make it work, i'm sure the US would become a target.

We've also been expecting an attack from them since, what, the 1970's? >.< We certainly don't want them learning how to use long-range missiles for the implications that has on the future (hence my point that we don't want them firing it even if it is just a satellite), but that doesn't imply that there'd be any immediate threat against the US. The bigger problem is still that posed to major, nearby cities.

Indeed, and the problem is that North Korea doesn't care about its people. Even if South Korea retaliated, the North would fight to the last man; regardless of damages.

North Korea is just correcting what Hitler did. They are taking a lot of time to test their equipment and perfect their strategy and tactics. Not good. Very likely this is a catalyst for World War 3. Just saying >.>
Just think back to when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor! A day that will live in infamy!

The missle is only known to reach at max to alaska. I don't see a problem blowing up alaska to be honest. Then we can actually have a reason to start drilling that wasteland after that. If the UN actually thought it was going to be a missle attack they would be doing a lot more shit right now. Don't always believe the shit you hear on the news.

Who says they are going to use it against people?
Why can't they launch satellites into space?
Why can't they make missiles to protect themself against other country's?

You know what the problem of the US is? They want to control the world they want country's to do whatever they want.
And when a country refuses to do this they get pissed-off and go into war. (Iraq is an example)
Now the problem for the US is that North Korea is working on Nuclear Weapons...once North Korea has these the US will lose control...

    Sorry for my English.
