Elo or LP, which one do you prefer?

There is a lot of debate about which one is better. IMO Elo was much better because we didn't have silly things like clamping and you could go as high as you wanted without having to worry about the top 50 in challenger. I am interested in other peoples opinions on the subject in which they prefer or if they like a whole new system from another game.

 

The LP system is awful... it keeps people more locked in place with the fact that you HAVE TO GET A 67% WINRATE in order to climb. It's based a lot on luck. Plus, it means that the challenger people never get to play; I've heard the queue times on Challenger can be 5-10 minutes easily.

 

ELO was heaps better.

I wonder why if so many prefer it they don't change it back. I'm excited to see what changes they will make for season 4 cause I think the vast majority of people highly dislike the LP system.

 

LP since your locked in a division and once your there you can experiment with different roles/champion and improve instead of playing a single champ or role to make your way to the top

 

Uh oh a new update for people who play ranked? I hope this doesn't EOC LoL... =[. Well, at least I hope it doesn't keep non-ranked players like me down =p.

 

Elo for sure. Except I may have only hit high gold instead of high plat if it weren't the new system.

 

This new system is designed to keep players playing. Makes it harder to fall, aswell as climb. Ehh, prefer ELO.

 

But the game still has mmr and if you sit at the bottom of a tier and keep losing games I think it can give players a false sense of security when their mmr gets put in the dumpster and they gain 3 lp and lose 20. It can be a lot more demoralizing this way then just losing a static number.

 

I prefer Elo over LP but Elo was very limited in what they could do whereas LP they can change it a lot.
The good thing about mmr and lp is even if you do loose and get 3lp gains and 20 lp losses by the time your lp gains and losses sorts itself out by mmr you will be a lot better at playing.. thats why i think it's a good idea it keeps you against the lowest set in each tier untill you can match them or do better. which prepares you for the next tier!

I am stuck on tier 1 aswell gaining about 10LP a day untill 100 then never winning enough in a row and being taken down to 80 or 90 lp..
Generally i think LP and the mmr is a good system just needs some tweaking to make the curve not so steep.

 

LP system works for the casual player. It gives you instant gratification for winning a game rather than needing to play constantly to maintain a good rating.

 

LP system is just bad.

 

I don't like the LP system. It gives me almost no motivation to win once I reach a certain rank.

For example, I only wanted to hit Gold V so that way I would receive that bonuses at the end of the season. However, upon hitting Gold V, since I can't drop anymore I just literally gave no fucks. If my team pissed me off, GG. I couldn't care less if my team wanted to win. Since MMR is hidden and you don't see any instant drops or anything either, there's no serious repercussions to doing so. Whenever you played using ELO, you would immediately see yourself losing 15 points so you would at least be deterred to throw. Using the LP system, all it does is lower your MMR and you don't see anything happen so who really cares as long as you've hit your target bracket already.

Of course, now if you want to advance yourself, you kind of already screwed yourself over -_-

 

I prefer LP. Gets more challenging to climb as you have to go on bo3s and bo5s, and also informs you when you are about to climb to a higher rank instead of elo which was like 'Hey you got 1450 ELO that's enough for gold'.

 

LP is awful, Elo ftw.

 

ELO was much better, but they won't change it until S4/PreS4 if at all.

 

you still have elo. Its just hidden. Lp doesent mean anything.

 

This is like saying EOC or 07....elo just has a better design.
