What do you miss most about the original Runescape? (2004-2007)

Hi Guys,

Obviously Runescape 2007 is somewhat "back", but however similar it may be we all know it is and will never be the same as the original Runescape due to a very different type of economy/players and a shortage of players.

Runescape used to have a special feel about it and I'm sure many of you will agree with me when I say I've had some amazing times on it! I just thought I'd make a thread to see what you miss most about the original Runescape? Here's mine:

- Varrock Multi-Pking: This was so much fun back in the day, finding teams your levels, pretending to be-friend people and backstabbing them for there dds haha
- F2P Castle Pking/Luring: Castle pking was always busy back in the day, we used a person as bait, hit someone with full rune and run away north pretending to die and me and a team of mages would be waiting in multi to bind/fire blast him down! Got so many full rune sets doing this
- Castle Wars: Castle wars was a big attraction of Runescape aswell, when I was first shown it by my friend I went there every day for atleast a month!
- Earning and taking pride in what you owned: Spending countless hours picking flax or chopping yews the legit way to buy items, I remember when I spent weeks at lumbridge killing chickens for feathers, and I manage to get 1m worth of feathers and buy full rune (T), I felt like god! Now' days you can just buy 1m for around $2..
- Duel Arena: Staking reasonable amounts in the duel arena (50k-500k etc) and the profit you won you actually spent on items or stuff you actually needed rather than staking for IRL profit.


These are just a few of the many things I miss about the original Runescape, I'll be interested to hear yours!

 

What we all miss is our childhood + RuneScape.

Being an adult and playing it will never be as fun, even if we could time travel back to those years.

 

probably how I felt about it personally as a child. I loved that game, and actually enjoyed levelling and grinding. It honestly is a struggle for me to justify playing it now.

 

Runescape classic is the "original" runescape.

I started playing in late 2008.

 

Of course we miss our childhood, but that doesn't mean we don't miss certain aspects of the game. I've just started playing rs07 again, and I would enjoy playing it more if it had some of the old stuff that it used to have (as I listed above).

 

Of course, however I'm talking about RS2 here.

 

Don't know why your embarassed, I don't care if my friends know I play it, what's the difference between runescape and xbox? My gf don't like me playing it but idc lol

 

Think of it like this:


As a child I loved dragonball z, that series was my top priority as a 7-10 year old boy.. I could rewatch an episode 30 times and not get bored.


I still love DBZ, but I couldn't rewatch it after seeing it once, I don't get nearly as excited about it anymore even tho I do like the new stuff their doing.


It's the same with RS, it's still something I love but it's never going to be the way it was in that time

Clanning. Warring, Tree to tree boundaries, getting ragged and dragging to spiders, getting a bollocking for not returning in full gear... The good old days.

 

Castle Wars / Mini-games in general - No matter what the world, Castle Wars was packed. It's almost hard to believe this was ever the case with how empty and dead it is now. Other minigames were also constantly packed on every world...Barb Assault, Pest Control, etc.

Falador Park being the main trading hub before the Grand Exchange came into the game. World 2 drop parties, merchanting, etc. was a ton of fun. The Partyhat area behind the park was always bustling with 40-50 players, a few of which were outright legends (Phat Shock, Fredmcgarry, Zezima, Starrychelx, etc. etc.).

I made ridiculous profits merchanting dragon bones day and night outside of Falador's east bank.

When the dragon chainbody was 25M and the best armor in the game: I got it at combat lvl 80ish and even the 126's in Castle Wars couldn't bring me down easily. It was a very funny experience, as even the Ice Barragers couldn't do much to me. I was a good candidate for holding our own flag when dropped and also had no problems scoring myself at a high success rate.

Every achievement being lauded by the community, genuinely: 99's were complimented constantly. When I got untrimmed rc cape at 95 combat, people were in disbelief. Whip out a blue partyhat with the untrimmed rc cape and they just about shat bricks. The same could be said for when I'd be in c-wars with full dragon and all most 100+s could afford was a zammy plate with dragon.

The competition for resources: Yes, bots were prevalent just like they are now, probably even worse so..but there were also plenty of legit players vying for resources as well. Woodcutting + Fishing were very social skills and almost felt like a community effort to gather supplies. Mining was just a clusterfuck of who can get the ore the most efficiently (I swear I'd be like 20+ mining lvls higher and still lose the ore most of the time).

 

Only thing I miss is the huge amount of people it had playing.

 

Adventures..Everything was a lot more challenging because back then I could barely speak/read English. Most of the places looked so much different, the game layouts and stuff, was just amazing. We all used to talk about scape in school and we all got on right after school and did stuff together.

 

Totally agree. I also wish runescape had the same community as it did back then..

 

Technically yes, but to me the original runescape is RS2 - have you got nothing better to do?

 

I know, I remember how packed castle wars used to be! It was sometimes a struggle to get into a portal because they was all full!

I remember world 2 fally, now falador is a ghost town no matter what world your in... All very good aspects of the game!

 

Me to, sucks.

 

Varrock multi pking and castle luring were so fun

 

Castle luring was hilarious lol, people running for there life in full rune and getting fire blasted down

 

Thing I miss the most is everyone for the most part being shit at PKing and everyone PKed in Rune armour. Now everyone PKs in Dharoks or AGS prods.
