New World January Update News

After weeks of testing on the PTR and some developer videos about the changes and player feedback, New World was updated in January. The update focused on adding stump leveling options and introduced the recently announced Expedition Mutants and new gear upgrades based on Umbral Shards. Fast travel and tax rates have also been improved.

Umbral Shards are a new resource obtained through the new Expedition Mutants. The higher the difficulty of these challenges, the more shards you get. You can also collect shards by opening plaster casts if you have at least 600 experience in this type. Expeditions have also been changed to accommodate the new mutants and updated in general, increasing rewards and loot quotas. The number of materials that can be used to craft Expedition Keys has also been reduced. In this way, even better participation in the new system is possible.

Fast travel has also been redesigned to reduce costs and increase efficiency. With this update, the distance factor for the amount of Azoth required per trip will be reduced. There are also new fast travel shrines throughout Aeternum to help you travel more consistently and frequently.

The Winter Convergence may be over, but the Yeti has been transformed by an elite boss. Also, there were a number of fixes to the AI, various perks for the new Mutator system, changes to Outpost Rush including increasing the cost of brute tokens from 500 to 750 Azoth, and many major fixes throughout the game. Many important fixes have been made throughout the game.

From player feedback, the team also learned that the housing tax was too high and that there was a significant imbalance between rich and poor due to tax rates and a number of loopholes and exemptions. For a while the tax rate was just 10%, but now it's back up to 100% as the tax margin has narrowed.
