[Guide]About DDOS and how to be safe

Ddos have become more and more common in runescape. For those who haven't seen bonesaws video please look at it:

He got got ddos for around 1 B. This guide wont be long or anything advance. And it's also aimed at people who stake or high risk pking.

So what is ddos?

Ddos stands for Distributed Denial of Service. A group of people (or a single indivudual) sends a large amout of traffic to one ip-adress.
The ip-adress will become slower and may eventually crash. If you get ddos you will notice that, you will most likely not dc but you will suffer a lot of lagg.

How do they ddos?

To be able to ddos you need to get your victims ip. This can be done on some diffrents way.
Skype is the most common one. A netstat on the victim will allow you to get his ip adress.
IRC is also a common one, the host of the chat can check who logs in and out (the ip).
You cannot get peoples ip through runescape.

How to be safe?

Never give your ip adress out. Never. Also dont add people that you dont know on skype. Futhermore dont go to IRC were you dont know that the host/admins are legit.

So after this my understanding is that those vidoes of people you see Ddos people in RS while fighting etc, they MUST have contacted that person outside of RS to get their IP first? Otherwise they must be fake?

 

Useful information on Ddos but never knew on Skype you could get your Friend's Ip Address. This could be useful information to others. Nice

 

Yes, you cannot get ip from runescape. If anyone claims that they got a program that gets ip from rs is 99.99999% of the time fake and have RATs or some other shit in them.

 

Runescape this, Runescape that. Only if people know how easy it is to RAT, you would all do it yourselves. It don't take a 'Hacking Expert' to use a DDos Program, it's basicly enter IP and click. Take the advise above, don't add people on skype that you don't know.

dont add people on skype thats what i would suggest also msn you can get ip thru that aswell as sending emails!

It's called DoS, not DDOS.

DDOS is whereby a user infects many pc and then launch Dos attacks with each infected pc.

To prevent getting DoS, setup a IDS.

DDOS doesnt require the computers to be infected. I think you mean botnets. And yes the method is called Dos, but since most people use more then one computer i called it DDOS.

IDS is a good way to detect if your getting ddos (or Dos) but the free programs doesnt stop a attack.

 

You can't even hit anybody down with a single computer...Just get a good firewall and you're fine.

To the OP - Not a terrible guide, covers more or less the basics, but thats really ALL you should need to know.

Also, be careful about visiting ANY links someone sends you. A while back I did a test on a bunch of people in IRC:

1. Threw together a piece of PHP that grabbed the IP of the person accessing webpage, wrote it to a text file, then redirected them to Runescape.com

2. Hosted it on a free webhost.


7/10 people clicked the link without even knowing
A. Who I was
B. What the link was.

And then 6/10 people never bothered asking once it redirected them to the legitimate Runescape.com

 

Nice guide, just be careful with your ip.

 

Mostly script kiddies DDoS... They probably use their mothers credit card to pay for a booter that will knock you offline for 2 minutes and then they have to wait ages before doing it again. Anyway if you have a problem, you can ring your ISP and ask for a IP change or you can set it so your IP changes every time your router/modem turns off / on.

But yes, people do have their hands on botnets that can keep you offline if you don't change your IP.

Had a friend of mine DDOS'ed while we were luring, the leader of the clan we were in got upset when we didn't lure with his friend, so he just got his IP off the IRC chat and DDOS'ed him... Quite sad tbh...

 

Nice guide, although you could maybe improve it by adding a section which gives some information on how to change your IP for those who believe someone may have access to their IP?
