New rule: must specify source of trade

Alright guys,

So I'm not sure how much this happens in other markets, but in the GP markets, to cut out on fees and risk of ban, sellers and buyers usually use multiple people in transactions, and sometimes it gets very messy and causes a higher ban rate for the trades depending where the gold is coming from, and other issues.


For Example:
Yellow wants to sell 1000M to Blue for $250 via WU
Blue sells 1000M to Red for $270 via WU
Blue gets Yellow to give the gold directly to Red after receiving payment, or having Red send the WU payment directly to yellow.

This new rule would require Blue to disclose to everyone what's going on and how many people are involved. I already do it with all my trades, but many other people don't, and it causes issues in many cases, especially when it comes to security.


Here's a situation that could have been avoided with this rule:
Someone was selling gold to me, and I disclosed to them that my partners in China would accept the gold. However, the other person did not disclose that he was having a big RWTer give the gold, rather than himself, so it ended up being a trade between someone selling mass amounts of gold, and my Chinese partners, creating an unnecessarily high risk situation. Both people were banned/reset.

I don't think this rule would decrease the amount it's done, but just give punishment out to the people who do it. It'd be like spam people would still do it knowing they can get in trouble but the outcome is usually a lot more enjoyable so they do it anyway, or in this case profitable. Maybe like a fee required for people that get caught doing it without disclosing it if this rule got passed. So when trades like this happen, the person taking the risk would at least receive some kind of bonus.

I know a couple people who do this, and I agree there should be full disclosure.

 

What's there to stop someone from lying though?

 

I think the idea is that people already should be disclosing all information, making a rule about it would just allow you to punish users who don't and get caught.

 

Well, I do think it will eventually reduce the amount if people get caught and punished.

I'm pretty sure they will eventually get caught, and it won't be worth the hassle of lying and getting caught for large traders, especially if the punishment is appropriate.

 

How are you going to enforce this rule? It seems rather obvious that it would be a good addition to the rules but at the same time it doesn't seem practical to enforce unless you're having people set in on every trade. Plus if you're going through PA or an offsite site then that adds new elements. I am not the most market experienced, but I am still wondering how this would be enforced.

 

I agree, users should know what kind of trade they are about to get stuck into, what if Blue is Selling gold to Yellow, and Yellow is selling Blue's gold to Red but Red ends up backing out mid trade, that leaves yellow in a tough situation that could possibly lead to a ban.

 

We would enforce it the same way we enforce the scamming rule: reports. For example, what I stated at the end of my suggestion actually happened. If the rule was there, I would be able to report it.

 

So what should the punishment be for users who get caught? It's not like everybody is going to stop doing it, if I'm thinking the same thing you are the person not giving the full amount of info is making money off this. So he's less likely to tell the truth. Imo, something like this couldn't be implemented because the punishment would have to be pretty harsh for people to stop doing it, and the majority of people that do this won't stop doing it because they're making money.


So I suggest a fee to be put in place for users that get caught, as it takes out of their profit. Instead of a ban.

 

Makes a lot of sense, i've had a similar situation happen to me off-site and it leads to a lot of confusion and often ends up in a scam.

 

I think a twc/temp forum ban would be an appropriate punishment if someone is found to be breaking this. Repeated violations could lead to a perm ban because this is very risky and selfish behavior

Frankly, I thought this was already a rule. Not disclosing this sort of information constitutes suspicious activity in my book, and we award users with TWC ranks for such carelessness.
