Disabling a user from rating a thread without posting.

Recently, I've had some random people, in which I haven't even talked to or meet, come on to my threads and rate 1 star. I know that I'm not the only person who has this done to, so I would just like to make a suggestion. I came up with the idea that a person can't rate the thread unless the have posted.
Therefore, honest and legitimate users who are actually reading, partaking in a service that's being offered, or replying back to what they've read can rate and those "leechers'' whose only business is to rate threads 1 star and spam can't be able to. Even if they decide to spam and then rate, they can be infracted. I have proof that this has happened to me in many occasions. I've had a friend of a fellow 76k provider rate my thread 1 star to make it look bad.

Same here, random people come into my MM thread everyday and rate 1 stars for no reason which pisses me off and then some people think since my MM thread is rated only 1 stars, it means my service is horrible. However I was able to fix the 1 star rate by having my friends and people I mm'd to rate 5 stars. Also another good suggestion is when members rate threads, they should have to provide a specific reason.

Personally, i find that rating 1 star without posting should be allowed, as in the RS black market, i'm nervous at 4 of 5 offences to post ANYTHING other than a direct bid, i've sent about 15 pm's today which is more than i've ever sent. Spam is being taken too seriously these days

Eh honostly most people don't pay attention to the star rating but if its just one star people will think more about it

 

Because the rating is the only way to express your opinion other than posting, as all most posts these days can be considered spam other than an indirect bid on a service/acount/etc.

 

Honestly, I don't look at ratings. They don't matter. My thread has 2 stars, and yet I always get the same amount of business.

I agree this should be implemented.
However, what stops the user from posting something on your thread, perhaps faking interest, that allows him to rate it?
It would take more time, yes, but if they want to, they only have to post one reply.

Seems logical and should certainly do more good than harm. I would support this, provided it isn't difficult to implement.

I like how a majority of the dissenting people in this thread are spam whores.

blade bro4, maybe your view on spam control is a little biased seeing as how you average 35ish posts a day. Do you really see it as your duty to go into every thread and make a post?

Also, Rampage Rock, 96 posts today? Let's say each post took you 5 minutes to make a post (accounting for the time it takes to navigate the site, read the thread and formulate a meaningful post). That would put you at exactly 8 hours today spent on the site. Now, I somehow doubt you spent 8 hours on Sythe today, which leads me to believe you spent drastically less than 5 minutes per post (again accounting all things mentioned before). I'm going to assume the quality of your posts is absolutely fucking terrible.

 

I personally like ratings. The stars on the thread, to me, pose a sense of authority and authenticity. Call me a novice
