New method of summoner names?

So I've encountered people with symbols in their names that I've never seen before and people who have accents on letters after I thought it wasn't able to be done.

For example:
Gyazo - 286f1dad054050b76d44fa0054f5afe6.png He's a challenger NA player and another player called whatocd but the o is a degree symbol.
Gyazo - 5e0effb028439957d1281eb043891004.png whatocd is challenger NA in 3s.

Most of Challenger 3s players have a symbol in their name as well. What the hell happened

 

You're able to set/change a summoner name with certain special characters in the new client. Of course, you weren't able to do it before on the old client.

does it work with korean letters?

 

As far as I can tell Korean letters don't work. Only ones I know for sure are the letters with accents over them such as ậ ć ế

 

This is intentional?

 

they fixed this on NA i changed my name to Joe before they patched it though
