I need help picking out a PC!

Hey. Well yeah, I've finally decided to upgrade my computer. I have right around $1,000 to spend on one. I'm looking for something that will do well with graphics (photoshop) and music and video stuff as well as being able to play most computer games.

My friends were showing me some Dell XPS's and stuff, but I'm not super tech-savvy so if anyone wants to help point me in the right direction...

i dont really know a lot about computers...but ive herd macs are pretty good...but thats just what ive herd so yeah...but i have a Dell XP and i like it

Ok.. Well you want one with alot of ram, for you I would get 2 gigs ram, a very good graphics card and a high processor. Dell sells great computers.

 

Do you know any specific Dell computer? I've been looking at the "XPS 210" as well as the "XPS 420" The 420 is $100 cheaper, but I don't really notice the difference in them.

 

Ugh, don't get a Dell or a Mac. Dells are shitty quality, slightly overpriced computers with horrible service reps. Macs are simply overpriced lumps of crap with an OS for people who know nothing about computers.

If you are up to it, and want to get the best computer possible, read up a few guides on the net, and consider building one yourself. Parts are very easy to buy off different sites on the net.

If that sounds too hard, then check out newegg.com for some good premades.

 

Heh. I don't think I'm going to attempt to make my own computer. I'll give newegg.com a look though.

 

I'd suggest you get a hp computer. They have very high warranty, and very good ram etc. Hope i helped gl.

 

I would suggest you buying something from alienware. They are all about gaming, and such.

2. What are you going to be using it for?

 

I hear that you can find the same stuff as Alienware, but for way less.

In my first post I said I was looking for one at or under $1,000 and would mainly be using it for an all around computer (i.e. photoshop, music, videos, etc.) but I also want it to be able to handle most computer games.

 

Build yourself, don't buy alienware, Overpriced stuff (HIGLY OVERPRICED)
You could easily build PC with
4 (Or maybe even 8gb if you want so) Gb DDR2 ram 800mhz
Intel Q9450 Quad-Core CPU
8800 GTS is enough for new games, but offcourse you could choose some new Nvidias 9800xxx
Then 500-1000gb HDD
Then some nice case, like Antec's P182, and some good PSU.

Building computer is very easy, all you need is screwdriver, and the parts.
Just install motherboard to case, then cpu, gpu, ram and hdd to it, thats it!
And by reading the manuals, There shouldn't be no risk to ruin it, unless you build it while being in shower, and water goes in there.. ( :F )

I builded mine few months ago:
Q6600, overclocked to 3.4ghz, and lapped
4Gb ram, at 900mhz
8800 Gt, overclocked and with better cooler
Then i have Tuniq Tower, lapped too
850gt hdd.

 

If you want to build one your self, which is very easy if you google it and read some guides, my bro made a computer all parts from newegg.com, cost him 1600 bucks. Quad core, 2gig of nice ram, dual 8800s 320mb ones...

if you cut costs a little you can get a decent computer for 1200-1300 bucks if you can get a bit more, and if you can build it your self.

I think in this case it may be more reasonable to buy a premade computer although it never hurts to check

 

To agree with a few posters here, Alienware is made by Dell, and is probably the most overpriced computers money can buy. A total waste of money.

Generally Newegg will be cheaper to buy from than Amazon, but check Amazon out too.

Get a Mac PC, and install Windows on it. It's sort of the same thing, but you always have the option to go to a Mac. Also, they hardly EVER crash, Hi-Def screens, fast as hell, and they look cooler .

 

Macs are evil! They are good for doorstops and not much else.

It would be a good idea to get a mac and then put windows on it, but macs are really expensive the cheapest they have is $1000 and would cost more if you wanted to play games, so its probably not logical in this situation.

Thats a pretty good computer. But the one I posted is a better deal.

120gb more hard drive space
1gb more of ram

Its going to be the same price if you buy the gateway or the HP and graphics card (both $850) and the graphics card is much better than the gateway.

The case looks really cool on the gateway...
