    New computer - need opinions

    Hello Sythe.

After roughly 7 years with laptops and only (hopefully) 1 year left for my studies to finish, I have decided that I want to upgrade to a strong gamer computer. I've tried to search a bit and such but you may of course help me with your knowledge. I found this computer on the a Danish website (I'm from Denmark too btw) with these specs:

    CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-6700K 4x4.00GHz (Turbo 4.20GHz)
    CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper TX3
RAM: 32GB DDR4-2666 Corsair Vengeance XMP RAM
GPU: Asus GeForce GTX970 STRIX OC 4GB
    Motherboard: Asus Z170-P Skylake
SSD: 500GB SSD Samsung 850 EVO (Solid State Disk)
    PSU: Corsair VS650 650W
Audio card: High Definition ALC887 Audio

    DVD: Asus 24x DVD-burner
Computer case: Vision Gaming OC-Series Black
    OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Price for this is like 1892,73$ using converter from Danish DKK.

What do you think about these parts I've chosen for gaming nowadays ?
Anything you think I should upgrade and why so ?
Is it worth for price I've put up ?

You might maybe have an opinion on upgrading the GPU. I've looked it up and I only get a little more performance for 232 extra dollars so I don't know if it's worth it or not. Opinions appreciated, thanks in advance :)

I'd say it's a good build. However, the budget is predominantly wrong.

You're spending more on the CPU than the GPU which I personally consider a mistake on a build of this calibre.

However, it makes more sense at the moment to buy a "cheaper" GPU with a new build than it does to buy a top of the range GPU. Because, this year Pascal will be released, therefore every gamer in their right mind should be upgrading to it. So if that is your intention, then the 970 is a good choice. For now, if not.. Well, you should be at least looking at a 980Ti with this build. If it doesn't fall into your budget, then perhaps DDR3 ram, as well as a 4770k i7 would suit better to enable you to purchase a better GPU. Though, I personally think this build is fine, if you intend to upgrade your GPU shortly.

Thank you for your answer ! :)

Will the performance be something big to be worth the money ? Because I wanna build a long term computer and my budget is around this amount I stated in my first post. So basically I am not looking for the "best" but almost best if it makes sense :D

Well, if that's your budget cap then as I stated your budget is managed wrong. For example, ddr4 ram is such an insignificant increase compared to a high frequency ddr3 when it comes to 'gaming', as well as this the processor being a very good one and all, will bring you little gain from it's counterparts. a 4790k is probably still the best price/performance chip out there for gaming. As well as saving money there, you'd save money on the ram and also decreasing to a z797 motherboard will save you money that in-turn can be spent on a better GPU. It's not that the 970 is a bad card, it's just not a suitable card for a build of this calibre. In my opinion, the money can be delegated differently to achieve better performance for gaming.

What your build does allow though is more future proofing. As well as the ability to change GPU in the future. So either way, it's a good choice.

I wasn't sure about the CPU to be honest, I could get to choose between
    i5-6600K 4x3.50GHz (Turbo 3.9GHz) and
    i7-6700K 4x4.00GHz (Turbo 4.2GHz)
So I thought I would get a i7 because it is probably much better.
And as of RAM, I was also unsure about if I should get 32 gb of ram or 16 gb could do.
Like I said I want a long term computer so I kinda wanted "everything" to be good if you understand. But performancewise I guess it would be better to cut some of them maybe and get a strong GPU instead

i7's are brilliant, especially the new Skylake. However, when choosing them to take a higher priority of budget in your build where the GPU will suffer, will ultimately suffer the overall performance of the machine. However, that being said. It's still going to be an incredibly good machine. I would just personally delegate the parts choice to prioritise the GPU.

What do you think if I cut down on the RAM to 16gb and went for 980GTX instead ? Will that be a better solution or should I atleast go for 980GTX Ti before it can make sense?

Is the jump from 980 to 980 ti worth it then?

Well the 980 has higher frequency.. Though it's an easy overclock. With modern games it's important to have the higher VRAM than anything else.

For the price difference it's probably worth it.

I was thinking maybe that this build could do untill they release the the pascal GPU which I could then upgrade too. But I just don't know if my other parts have to be switched out also, fx RAM or Motherboard? Do you have any information on this? Because I ONLY want to switch the GPU in the future if you understand.

AFAIK pascal will still use PCI-E. So as I stated in the first post I made, if that is your intention; the 970 will be a suitable card until the pascal release.

Thank you very much, I guess that's how I will do then. I've made a bit research about pascal performance and it seems like it's gonna much better than the best card currently which is the Titan X apparently. So buying this 970 and spending it for a couple of years and then switch it with a pascal gpu is a better long term choice which is what I was aiming for. It's not like the 970 won't do good, it sure will (watched some videos and did some research here aswell)
    Thank you again :)
