    Best Laptop to buy?

Hey im going to college soon and I need a new laptop for it. Atm I have a 1TB Hard drive and im looking for a fast computer with windows 7. It has to be able to play WoW, D3, and possibly a few other games with RuneScape in the background as well as msn and sythe. Idk if alienware is a good choice or not because of the price so if anyone could help me out and post what a good choice would be that would be amazing

to hell with an alienware. as a college student, save your money and put it to better use in other places.

for less money, you can get something that will play your games of choice at max resolution...and then some, for much less money

Not necessarily being my opinion, but a fact; you can get the most value for your dollar by going with these:
    1. Sager Notebook: their top-end lineups are the most powerful hardware-wise on the entire market, and for the best price too. If you go with a mid-range laptop, you still cant beat their prices. There is nothing these things aren't capable of, hardware-wise. In terms of the little features, though, they tend to be cut a little short. Still, 2.1 Onkyo speakers, backlit keyboard..you're good to go. Their customer service is overall good as far as I've heard. Never dealt with it personally, though as i've never (yet) owned a Sager.
    2. MSi laptops: their top-ends dont offer SLI graphics, but they still offer extremely potent hardware, such as the GeForce 680m. Feature-wise they're the most packed, which makes up for some of the hardware. They offer Dynaudio speakers in their top-end, while their mid-range still have stellar audio(four speakers), plus things like the turbo-fan buttons, SteelSeries keyboard(it's stellar),multi-drive SATA3 capability(and mSATA!), backlit keyboards, EXTREMELY simple maintenance(the whole bottom comes off as one panel for easy cleaning) on all of their models. Customer service is outstanding, as long as you don't abuse the computer. If you overclock it and burn it up like a fool...then you're on your own.
    3. ASUS laptops: these things are great notebooks, and are very solid in quality. They don't offer the same level of hardware as MSi, but are fairly close. They are lightyears behind Sagers, but nonetheless their top-end notebooks should be able to play most games maxed out. Due to their stellar cooling(heat kills electronics, or better yet..more heat=less life. laptops tend to be bad about this) these laptops tend to last a little longer than most others. Like any gaming laptop though, they still have a relatively short lifespan compared to a desktop. they offer some decent features on their upper-end models like backlit keyboards, 2.1 audio, and SATA3 on some models. In my experience, their customer service is beyond AWFUL. SLOW response time, and they'd rather refurbish your computer than replace it. It also seems that their techs are incompetent.

beyond that, you have the top-end lenovos(equivalent to a mid-range MSi), although these things are bulletproof, and their customer service is outstanding.
The top-end HP's are about like a low/mid-range MSI gaming notebook, but HP's have awful heat issues in my experiences. Don't even get me started on their customer service, either...

I've owned a TON of laptops, I'm always on the go so a desktop is not feasible. Anything you want to know, I can help you out. I've hopped from brand to brand, some with multiple models. Plenty of experience here.

    Best Laptop to buy?

I bought a hp pavilion like 5-6 years ago from walmart and it worked fine for 3-4 years untell it started smoking and the motherboard got fried. So id like the get something that is good for gaming but isnt to hard on the wallet. Ive looked into MSI in the past and almost bought one of there laptops but they seems to be pretty expensive aswell. Thanks for the help, i still dont know what ill get but youve given me a few choices that I can look into

    Best Laptop to buy?

I would look for either an ivy bridge laptop w/ 630m-650m or sandy bridge laptop w/ 540m-555m. I personally own an Asus N56VZ which has a 650m graphics card and I'm pretty happy with the results. Can play Guild Wars 2 on Full HD / medium settings at around 40 FPS. Which looks extremely good on a 15.6" screen.

You didn't mention your actual budget so I guess it is around 800$? Or because you mentioned an Alienware it could be 1200$?

    Best Laptop to buy?

Judging by the fact that he would even consider mentioning an alienware laptop, im sure his budget is fairly steep. And with a steep budget, this is why I would list many alternatives to the alienware that are much better in terms of value.
The money saved over buying the alienware could be put towards accessories such as a hdmi cable(i play on my 65-inch 3dtv, with a 7.1 ch denon receiver & martinlogan speakers), a bluetooth keyboard & mouse(so i can set the laptop on the coffee table and sit on the couch!) and several games.
I personally own an MSi laptop, and I could not be happier. I don't have the GTX680m in mine, I have the 675m. I paid about 1000 less than an equivalent alienware. Nonetheless, the thing has run everything i've thrown at it with maxed settings, without a hiccup.
After owning two asus g-series and two HP gaming rigs, I'm confident that this MSi is far better than any of my previous purchases. My next laptop will likely be a Sager, though. Dual 680's in SLI will last me MANY years before it becomes obsolete. I'm a little overboard though; when I buy a game and find that my laptop can't max it out with decent playability...it's time for me to upgrade.

    MSI GX60 might be something.
It was for sale on the gaming event First Look for 1200€. I guess it would be around 1350$ or something and it has a 7970m videocard which similar to the 680m videocard. It ran a random racing game on three Full HD screens fluidly which is impressive for a laptop.

    Pic from first look

I think it's one of the best price/quality combinations right now looking at the gaming benchmarks.

Asus G75VW Republic of Gamers laptop is a fuckin' beast.

There's many different models for it, each with their own set of specifications

    Asus G75VW-BBK5 model ($1199):

    Asus G75VW-NS71 ($1350):

    Asus G75VW-DS71 ($1550):
    http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-G75VW-DS71-17-3-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B007Z92SKE

    ASUS G75VW-DS73-3D ($1,857.98, $1,707.98 after 150$ rebate):
    http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-G75VW-DS...199&sr=1-4&keywords=Asus+G75VW#productDetails

I have the Asus G74SX-BBK7 (last years model) and it runs virtually any game I throw at it. It is a fantastic laptop and I know that once it's time to replace this one, I'll be going for the newest model of the Asus RoG (Republic of Gamers) G-series. But with this much power I won't be needing to upgrade for another 5 or more years.

    Best Laptop to buy?

I had an ASUS for two years before i bought a MBP.

Ran RS fine and was great for botting. Nothing extreme at all, i5, 5gb ram, 500gb hd.

I researched them a lot and they were by far the best choice/buy out of the more main stream brands in terms of quality and length of life in the laptop.

Obviously, you would need better specs to run those games, but for RS, botting, PS, it was fine.
