Why was sythe down?

So on Christmas I tried getting on sythe and it redirected me to google where it said server not found. Tried on my phone and Mac and both said same thing. So I went to that google site downforeveryone or is it just me and they said it was down. So did sythe get ddos'd or was servers offline that day.

 

I dont speak on behalf of Sythe himself But I'm pretty sure it was an attack.

 

Possible DDOS, maybe something else

 

Are there any ways to prevent DDOS attacks, or is it something which can't be stopped?

 

Zorp was right, it was all day long until today I tried again at about 08:00 GMT+1 and it came. I thought it was me because usually I could find a person asking about sythe on yahoo answers and I thought my ISP Provider have blocked something for this European Internet Act lol

 

Sythe was not down. The proxy servers were.

I keep suggesting rotative IPs DNS and DNS based protection.

 

I couldn't get on all day either. It was definitely offline for atleast 10 hours, and for everybody else too, as I asked some RS friends to log on for me and see if the site was working or not. I suspected a DDoS attack, but that could be totally wrong lol.

 

So is there any way to get protection?

 

There is protection, Zorp. I'd imagine a fortune worth, but nothing can prevent everything all of the time.

 

The protection went down, not the actual site. As soon as Richard got online, he had it fixed within a few minutes. I'm assuming that the protection didn't restart automatically or something so it had to be done manually and it was back online. I'm sure Richard and Matt will look into what happened.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if it was an attack. We get those a lot, too, and I'm not 100% sure who is behind them.

god who the hell wastes there time DDOSing a community forum? similar communities that are jealous?

 

Who knows, no point throwing accusations around either.

 

It was a sign telling us that we shouldn't be living our Christmas on the internet.

 

Powerbot was down as well, so maybe they were trying to bring down the whole rs blackmarket?

 

People always gotta be hating on Sythe...

 

It wasn't down all day, just a little bit here and there, but it seems as if it was a mass attack. Not a big deal, really, but it does make me curious as to the who and the why.
