    Network question.

Basically, my brother downloads a lot during the night and I generally peak @ night and am keen to play games. Which brings me to my problem, my net is trash, I get 500ping~(originally 50) to Aussie servers so I need to find a way to DC said internet connecting then reconnect it whenever from my PC. Don't bother suggesting "oh unplug it from the router" it's in my dads room, and I'd rather avoid having to wake him up in the middle of the night, or to move the router, or ask my brother not to download. Neither are an option.

    TL;DR
ways to dc&rc ethernet connections from my pc remotely.

    Hardware;
    Router/modem is a Netgear DGN2200
Both PCs connected via Ethernet cables.
one pc is an i7, 8gigs ram
    other pc is a phenom 2 x6 1055t, 4gigs ram
just thought i'd put ruff specs just incase it's useful.

    Ta, Noodles. x

    Network question.

Have never messed with netgears, but I know with my Linksys router you just login to your router from your internet browser by going to the routers IP.

Go to cmd then run ipconfig

It should say default gateway, then have an IP adress, something like 192.168.1.1 is mine.

Go to that in your internet browser, then it should ask for a username and password. Try Username- admin and password- admin. If that doesn't work, username and pass should be on the router. Once there, look around for something like access restrictions mine says, and disable the connection for the other computer. Again, this is just how I do it on my router, yours will be different.

Here is the online manual for your router you can look through-

    Network question.

If you're on the same network as your dad's pc, just use windows RDP.

Open start, type "run" in the search menu. In the run menu, type "mstsc" and hit enter. Type in the pc name of your dad's pc, and it will prompt you for a user and password. This only works if he has remote desktop enabled for ALL connections.

Alternatively, install logmein on his pc (web based remote access software for free), or install ultraVNC on his machine and connect to his machine using a password you create in the VNC settings.

    Network question.

You could follow the second post. All modern routers (02 or later) usually have a tab somewhere in the control panel that allows you to see all devices currently on the network. For our school network, we can see the name of the device, the IP, and the MAC address. When they show up on your ISR router control panel, you SHOULD be able to remove them from access to the internet.

That being said; you could also reboot the router and change the password through the control panel as well. You won't have issues then.
