Anti-Scam Project (Need your help!)

Hey guys,

I was recently kicked out of the Community Development team, but there was one project I really wanted to finish that was abandoned. I thought about it, and since the project requires a lot of help, it would actually be better if the entire community helped with it.


1. What are we doing?
We need to go through a list of Report a Scammer threads, and add information on who was banned, why he was banned, and so on.

2. How can you help?
I've created a spreadsheet you can contribute to, so this way, we'll know in real-time on Google Docs what information has been filled and what's missing.

3. How do you start?
Post your e-mail on this thread, or PM me. Please, do not grief the spreadsheet. We'll know who did it and you'll be reported.

The project was originally started by KMJT, then revived by Syed and myself. The goal is so have a database of all the people who have been banned on Sythe.org. Then, a tool will be released where you can enter any piece of information, and it cross-checks it for ban evaders and such. It's a quick way to look someone up before you trade with them, or to access information about why someone has been banned. Syed compiled a list of all the scammer reports that most likely resulted in a ban, so we will be using that. On the sheet you will be invited to, there are general guidelines as well as the first one done that you can use as a sample.

Everyone who contributes will be added under the credits. There are about 6,200 threads that need to be taken care of, to begin with. Anyone who goes through more than 500 will be awarded $5 donor as a small token of gratitude, as well.

I remember this being done on Sythe and we even did it on BugAbuse for a while and it was pretty epic.

Why are you doing it on a spreadsheet?

Make a website for it and put it into the database. Would be easy to code, and then even easier to search for information later. You could add a form for people to add information to it.

 

We're kind of short on coders, unless you want to do that. The plan was to have this as a start, code it, and then let people submit it in the future.

 

It won't take much to code the basics. I could code you a very basic input form for the information, then it submits to the database. I could have a page where it all outputs without any styling too. We can work on the style and everything later on.
