Just like the post and pm limit, a user can easily flood the site with searches if the limit is removed.

 

Possible happy medium could be making this a donor perk, don't see many $25+ users ddosing the site tbh if it does happen however we could remove it Support chloe

 

I guess if it's not a big deal this could be a simple extra perk.

Under the assumption that this is possible, this is a fantastic idea. It's been suggested a huge amount of times before, yet I don't think anyone's been able to come up with a suitable medium.

I'd love to see it as a donation perk honestly, its always bothered me.

 

Making it a $25+ perk is impossible the way the donor usergroup is set up. In order for this to work, we'd have to make different usergroups for each donor level, which Matthew has already stated isn't going to happen.

 

So it's not a case of it's can't happen, it's a case of the admins don't want to put in effort spending 1-2 days probably changing everyone into the usergroups?

 

Lol you've been very shitty ever since your app was denied, I think if Matthew is the only one that can do it, it won't be done, considering it takes a week or so for him to find any free time to add in a UI, clearly he wouldn't have the time to do this.... Fuck it, wait 30 seconds

 

I agree with Bot. We donate, if the work calls for it, why not? A user could just as easily flood the site another way, or the same way whether the flood guard is there either way, I'd assume.

Its like it as it is because anyone can spam searches and kill the site crashing it to crash. Staff don't have a limit on searches.

A different usergroup for search timers would be nice. Although it'd have to be $50+ at least. Plus a method would have to be put in to tell who is running what search so instance of abuse can be detected. This has been asked for in the past but denied because of the usergroups.

How much time would it take to set up an additional usergroup though?

 

Why would an additional usergroup need to be setup? Couldn't the donor usergroups just be edited to include the perk? (maybe I'm missing something)

 

I thought this was a suggestion for multiple timers + usergroups to be set up? So you want a $5 donor to be able to have no timer on the search and be able to spam it? Whereas a $50+ donor is less likely to spam it. I think there would need to be separate usergroups for this. Not all donors should have no timers on search.

 

Why has nobody suggested simply lowering the limit on searching to like 5-10 seconds?

 

They have, its been declined as causing more stress on the servers. This would mean EVERY user would be able to search every 5 - 10 seconds. Sythe.org doesn't have a server capacity like Microsoft.

 

That isn't why? The timer is there to prevent site flooding from doxers not because we can't manage it, least to my knowledge that is the case. In regards to decreasing the timer again this could be suggested as a donor perk, but by the sounds of it, most likely won't get done due to the effort matt would have to put in isn't something he could do...but again i'm all for supporting some middle ground here

Its to prevent people crashing the server + flooding the forum then. It isn't THAT much effort, just make some adjustments to the current usergroup or make another one altogether.

I don't think he ever said 100% no to it. Just 'not right now'.
