The following is a quote from the article on the RuneScape homepage, here.

What do you think of this? Now that Jagex's "bot nuke" has proved to be more successful than originally thought, do you believe Jagex is really pursuing legal actions against iBot now?

Yes, I do believe they will sue iBot. Not too sure where iBot is located, but dont international lawsuits cost much more than Jagex would ever get back out of it?

It will be interesting to see if they continue to sue other botting programs our there, but I think this is a one off.

    Thanks for the thread.

EDIT: Is Jagex / other botting sites doing anything to RiD? Their web pages aren't loading, and the site is very rarely down.

I'm pretty sure that RiD is being DDoSed.

It really seems that iBot is being sued now, and that sucks because I had always hoped that I would still be able to bot with Nexus after RSBuddy shut down..

I believe they will sue iBot. I hope they succeed. I'm glad they are giving players some insight to what's going on, as well. Bot-free Runescape is a lot more fun.

Good read. Thanks for posting this.

I think it's far from over and that RSBuddy has made them cockier about the whole situation and they feel they've already one. It's the ignorance of Jagex that will be the end of them

    Thanks, that clears it up.

Anyways, I don't think you will be seeing many if ANY old botting sites around. jagex has done 'good' and the only thinks left will be Simba, SCAR, etc.

Well I have to say, I am impressed.

Jagex was much more successful than anybody thought they were going to be, including myself. Bots have had the upper hand in Runescape for many years now and I never thought Jagex would be able to do anything to stop them.

I still think that suing individual players is a little bit ridiculous, and I have a hard time imagining alot of those cases actually holding up in court. But I guess we will just have to wait and see. Very interesting update, thanks :)

Ignorance? I think you seriously under-estimating JaGex as a whole.

In all honesty, if JaGex is serious about this there is no way the bot developers can keep up. Sure, they can crack the client and perhaps keep their bot up for a week, but JaGex can counter it and put them down for a month. No bot developer wants to put that much time into their client for it only to work for a microscopic period of time. It's bad revenue for them, on top of on-going legal actions against them.

Face it, botting as a whole is coming to a stop.

Agreed. Though I'm curious if RiD and Simba will survive and what Jagex will do about them.

I believe they can thrive, yes. Though, I have a feeling there will be something happening that will get them pretty much insta-banned. I have no theory to support this opinion; I guess just intuition.

This is all getting really interesting.

I'm honestly actually proud of Jagex for the recent antics, they've really impressed me.

Bot creators will never have the upper hand no matter what.

    1. Jagex can sue them if they are successful
    2. bot creators will want income, if there bot fails then what ? move on ?

iam sure there are other games bot creators/farmers will target next rather than wait and take on the risk.

if jagex is serious they will just tamper bots again and again until bot users and creators give up. not to mention they have a risk of getting caught.

also think about how much money Jagex has to spend ? they have far more resources than any bot company.

If you want to make money from rs dice.....

note: i hate dicers but thats the truth

Unfortunately, that is true. Jagex has always been able to 100% stop bots, but have never done it. They've always wanted the extra income ... but now that they've done something serious I'm sort of seeing this as the beginning of the decline of the game.

I thought this was going to be another of Jagex's half-assed attempts to get rid of botting but they seem to be determined to really stick it to the bot users and creators.

Heh, so they're finally stepping up!

And that explains how they caught so many botting players. That was a sneaky AND smart move from Jagex.
(oh god am I happy I used another email adress.)
