Need help connecting a Wireless Xbox controller to my Laptop

Okay so I bought the official Xbox Wireless controller so the adaptor I have is the official Microsoft one too. I have looked for help on this issue everywhere but can't find the answer. My wireless receiver has been installed correctly and I have also installed the Windows 7 64bit software.

At this stage you are supposed to press the xbox home button, then the connect button on the wireless receiver, and then the connect button on the controller. I do this and my controller does not connect. After trying to connect for about a second it just stops and goes back to flashing.

I have seen that this is a problem if the wireless receiver is an unrecognized USB device, however mine isn't and has successfully installed, which is why I am so confused as to why it is not working.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, would also happily Skype screenshare or Teamviewer if need be.
