Anything surrounded by * means exponents and its a fraction. How do I simplify this?

    (-4x*2*) *-1*
    (2x*-1*)

you'd just distribute the -1 into the entire perenthesis on top so it would be 4x^-2/2x^-1

Then you can cancel out some x's and generally you have the exponent as a positive.

^ is generally used to denote exponents.

    ((-4x^2)/(2x^-1))^-1 =
    (-4x^2)^-1/(2x^-1)^-1 =
    ((-1/4)*(x^-2))/((1/2)(x^1)) =
    ((-1/4)*(x^-2))/(1/2x) =
    -1/(2x^3)

    So, the answer is -1/(2x^3)

then negative -1 power just means you flip the entire fraction on the other side. Also, write your exponents as x^-1 :p

I'll solve this later when I get out of class. It's going to be easy though.

Nevermind, this is from like 2 weeks ago. Who keeps reviving old posts?
