Need help about a BBQ Gathering

I have around 15-17 people coming to mine for a BBQ, I was wondering for that many people how much meat/foods would I need to get?

    My current list is:

    - Steak
    - Lamb chops
    - Chicken (breasts)
    - Chips
    - Potato Salad

But i don't know how much to get of each. Can someone help me out thanks.

Well my family has a load of these gathering and we usually have about 15-20 people come to ours. Lets see how i can help ya.

Usually one big bowl of potato Salad 2 bowls, and we usually have a load left over.
Steak usually we buy the family packs that are usually big and we get about 20-25 of those because a load of people come for seconds and a man can eat about 2 of them so you can go from there.
Chicken- Usually legs we would buy 30 but with breast id say 1 per person should do considering you have a load of other meats.
Chips we usually never buy but i would recommend crackers because it goes with the salad we usually buy the ritz they go well with everything.
Lamb chops i would recommend ribs buy about 4-5 slabs of those and throw on the grill that feeds 10-20.

Well hope that helps ya out a bit man.

Sounds like a nice barbecue :)
I'd say Nerfed got it right. I'll give you a little recipe too :D

Buy some prawns, marinate them in sweet chilli sauce for like 3 hours and then put them in some tin foil (with the sauce) and cook them on the barbecue (in the tin foil) and OMG they are little mini prawn orgasms in your mouth...

I don't like prawns, not one bit... But when they're done like that ^ I scoff em all down.

You got to have some burgers at a BBQ haha, buy enough for like 2 burgers per person.

I wouldn't recommend having chips - BBQ's are meant to be light and fun, not food that'll make you feel full or like you're eating dinner.

I'd recommend either chicken or lamb kebabs - they're always a winner imo. Chicken with green pepper and red pepper threaded on a skewer alternately, oil the BBQ grate and brush on BBQ sauce or something, turning and brushing more sauce on for 15 minutes or so. Delicious ^_^

Kebabs are so awesome, but they can be hard to make enough for everyone. When I have a BBQ I always keep it very simple, burgers and all the extra's such as cheese and sauces and a few bits of salad. Also I tend to cook a few steaks but only if someone wants one because not everyone wants one. Also I don't know about the US but int the UK hotdogs are very popular BBQ meal and sausages are very cheap to buy. I always tend to lay off chicken due to the fact if you don't cook it right things can get messy and I wouldn't want to give food poisoning to one of my guests haha. So here is a short list of what I would have,

Burgers - Cheese, sauce and salad to go with them.
Hotdogs - Also some sauces to go with them, even some chili if you want.
Steaks - To anyone who wants one, but people tend to prefer burgers imo.
Extra's - Burger buns and hotdog buns, sauces and salad.

Also if anyone is vegetarian then try accommodate with some veggie burgers or something.

What's a BBQ without burnt food? Burn it on the outside it's perfect - no chance of poisoning anyone ;)

Thats true, I love my food cooked well anyway. BBQ is nothing without that BBQ slightly burnt taste. ;)
