No worries man. I was in a similar boat last year when I built my PC and I know it seems really intimidating but you'll realize once you start learning more that there isn't much to it.

PC building is, as previously stated, like putting together Legos. So long as you're able to read the manuals that come with the more irritating pieces to install (ie, the aftermarket cpu cooler) - the rest just slips into place.

Also, look at Slickdeals and reddit.com/r/buildapcsales
Can save you quite a bit finding parts individually if you want to put in the effort

$500-1500 is a lot, I don't think anyone can argue with that, so I definitely will do anything to save some money

Hi, If you pm me your budget I would be happy to build you a PC with all the components that you require and will make sure all the parts are compatible, I've been building PC's for years and have a computer forensics degree I know this isn't related to technicians but I still know a lot about the ins and outs so just throw me a PM happy to give you or anyone advice.

from personal experiences, theres a ton of different gaming pc websites with prebuilds or building guidelines. Cyberpowerpc.com actually tells you what their builds run at on a handful of games on ultra. Although osrs is less cpu and graphically intensive, compairing builds and reviews definitely will give you a handle on what to look for.

if i were you, id look for a build at least $1000+. computer parts change so often, newer and better things come out almost every other month. it can be expensive, generally more money you spend on more up to date parts, the longer your computer will last/run. AMD is preferred if you are on a budget, but they do have numerous negative aspects. theres so much to know, that i cant type here.

If you haven't built a PC before and know little about them I wouldn't recommend building your own due to some parts being very fragile. If you do really want to build one though make sure you ground yourself before touching any components, don't screw things in too tight and make sure things are line up to their slots correctly and don't push hard.
I would recommend finding a suitable pre-built system or shopping with a vendor that will build the system for you (some even free of charge).

If I were you I'd be looking for an Intel Skylake i3 or i5 with 8GB/16GB of RAM with maybe an RX480 or a GTX1060 (when it comes out). Definitely look into to getting a lower capacity SSD for the boot drive with a HDD for other storage.
Motherboards don't really make any difference, so as long as it has all the ports you need you should be fine.
Cooling doesn't matter all that much either you should be fine with the included CPU cooler or a low end Arctic Freezer.
It's also important not to overspend on the PSU as modern PCs don't pull all that much power so anything 80+ bronze or better at 500-600W should be fine.
Don't buy an expensive case with windows and shit either, just get a basic one, you stop looking through the window after about a month, its just a waste.

generally, you want to stick with skylake i5 or i7. minimum for gaming, 8gb of ram. as far as gfx cards go. gtx 980 is becoming outdated, but running 2 (SLI) of them would be sufficient for any game. However, skylake setups are generally more money. currently im building an sli nvidia gtx 1070 setup with overclocking features. i would void amd entirely, but its just my opinion. i might be able to put a build together for you if you want, if you give me your max budget.
as far as buildinig one for the first time. i did mine off a youtube video/guide and it worked fine. like @Qazteck stated though, you have to be careful
