Getting my new gear tomorrow

So my SSD arrived yesterday (I got a Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB) and I'm going out to MicroCenter to get my Mobo & CPU tomorrow.

I'm so pumped but I can't decide which case I should put it in. If I put it in my Antec 900, I have to pull apart my old MoBo/etc. to replace it all. If I put it in my old NZXT Tempest case I have to figure out how to fix the power button (that got stuck/won't pop back up). And then there is my brother's old case which I don't really want to touch... He might kill me. Lol.

All of them have parts installed, so no matter what I have to deconstruct a computer.

The other thing is that my current computer (in the Antec Case) has my strongest RAM in it. I don't want to take it apart until I know that everything works on the new computer (since I still do have schoolwork to do). If I use a different set of RAM/Power Supply to install the OS, will it still work properly when I swap out to my better stuff?

Suggestions on what I should do?

I think I should (and kind of want to) switch back to my NZXT case to get a little more airflow for my dual-GTX 470s, but I'm not sure. And I'm also afraid of pulling out the power button to replace it with a different one - I don't want to ruin the case's look.

NOTE: I might upgrade to a larger case at a later time (after I haul in a little more money/make sure I pass all my courses)

 

Might I ask waht CPU+Board?

IMO, I'd probably go the NZXT case, powerbutton should be a simple fix, if you cbf doing that, just plug the reset switch into your power switch on your MOBO and it'll work fine(my antec 1200s power didnt work so i used a reset as a power switch). And yes, you can switch ram and psu anytime and itll work fine.

The button is compressed, wouldn't that make it infinitely reset? I mean I would swap it, but I would like to make the case look nice as well (not a random broken-looking button). :| I have not seen anyone that shows how to mod that.

 

Just plug reset into the power on + and - on the mobo, but dont plug the power into anything.

If its just compressed it should be as easy as just taking apart the case a bit and releasing the button/adding some jelly/lubricant to get it working again.

 

With this case, it tends to not just be a compressed button. The plastic casing holding the button breaks.

 

Well in that case like stated earlier, just plug the reset switch into your mobo in place of your power switch. It won't do any harm and it will act just like the power switch. Just make sure you do not plug in the power switch into the reset pins on the mobo.

 

For some reason I reached in and just pushed the whole plastic casing back into place. I had to completely disassemble my other computer to take parts from it (that I realized I needed)... Like the aftermarket CPU cooler I had. Now the new computer's up and running and I'm installing Windows 7. It's awfully noisy right now though... Hope that all gets fixed after everything is set up and tweaked properly. >.<

 

So... new gear is in. Computers up and running, but I'm trying to tweak the CPU (i5-3570K) on my ASRock Z77 Extreme4 MoBo.

4.5gHz is stable but ~95C under constant max load. However, when I loaded CSGO and started playing. The computer BSODed with memory into non-memory area (or something like that).

I've dropped down to a 4.2gHz and haven't tested it yet. Also dropped my voltage to .025V over (from .05). More or less just worried about temperatures. Also, does anyone know how to disable turbo? >.<

The biggest problem I have right now is that my old HDD (which had pretty much all my vital data on it) is stuck in my other computer's HDD mount - a screw stripped and now I can't remove the screw.

 

Prime95 it for 24 hours to test for stability. Also 95c is a bit hot, are you running the stock heatsink or are you using a decent aftermarket one?
