Just found an Iphone 4s

Yeah, so I am getting out of my car at the airport and there is a 32gb white Iphone 4s laying face up on the ground. There is a crack running along the back but it has not damaged the camera at all. The only contacts inside are buisnesses and I think it was the guys work phone. I would like to keep it and sell it so my question is this.

If I jailbreak it will it still be able to be tracked? I have learned from experience not to turn stuff in and even if I wanted to, who the hell do I call or give it to.

 

The guy probably was traveling.If you do want to turn it in I'd call some family contacts he may have find out where he is etc.If you're going to keep it..I wouldnt turn it on for a month or two switch the simcard + jailbreak it not experienced with tracking but goodluck with whatever you plan to do.

Return it, if you get caught with it you could get in serious trouble. Call some people on the phone like "Mom" or someone who looks like a friend.

Just format everything you can format, re-install some shit and factory restore it.

Thank you this is what I was looking for. Obviously the guy was traveling, there are no personal contacts, only jet line companies and some law firms. This was a work phone that I doubt would ever find its way back.

Since it is not verizon would it help that I removed the SIM? how would the phone know what number it was registered to if I jailbreak/unlock it?

No it can't be tracked if you jailbreak it, I can even buy it from you if you like.

Just toss the SIM out, it's not important.

 

There's a chip in the phone itself that designates what international mobile equipment identity number it has, So if that where to get blacklisted, it'd be useless for good (call wise). I would either return it, or use it as a hefty iPod.

 

Ah so the IME CAN be disabled..

 

Unless the person specifically had their IMEI written down, they will not be able to contact att and disable it. You can also CHANGE the IMEI, which makes that completely pointless to begin with.

Simply trash the sim, unlock the phone, and buy a sim card for any carrier you want, i.e. boost mobile, sprint, att, verizon, straight talk, etc.

Something similar happened to me a couple of months ago. I was chilling at the park with a couple of friends and then we saw an iPhone 4 on the ground, so I took it and turned it off for a week. Then one of my friends wanted to buy it off me so he called his own phone with the iPhone we found to see if the owner cancelled the phone service but he didn't... Long story short the owner was able to track the phone down and I had to return it. Oh well I was only going to sell for around $75.

If you really want to sell it and your worried about it bring tracked, I suggest that you go to a pawn shop quite far away from you live or one you've never been to before snd sell it there as soon as possible.

You could also try to contact the original owner and let him buy it back for a certain price.. But yeah he would know that it has been found then so that might not be the best idea. Last saturday I was going out with a couple friends and we found a blackberry (pretty cheap one, but still) and returned it to the original owner. He was pretty happy and got everyone a beer so yeah. But if you really want to sell it you obviously can. Just think of how you would feel if you lost your phone and someon would be kind enough to return it

 

I still have it. I am honestly waiting on a call from someone asking. I'm not going to do anything to sell it until after a reasonable time has passed. Like I said, it is a work phone so there is no way to call him to let him know..

 

It was the guy's own fault for losing his phone, so don't feel unsure about anything, it happens.
Take out the sim, break it, and reformat the phone.
Get it unlocked + jail-broken, and then sell it on Sythe, or Craigslist, Ebay etc.
