    Bad case of insomnia

I need serious help, for the past 5 months i haven't slept for more than two to three hours a day. I try to go to sleep but all my mind dose is wonder what i can be doing. Ive tried the trick of writing it down but it dose not work.

Classes are about to start up and i need to be on the rhythm of getting up at 5:30 every morning for pt.

I refuse to resort to medications or drugs to solve the problem.

Any one have any advise? or even just experience with this type of problem?

    Bad case of insomnia

Well my dad had this problem... he visited the doctors and ended up having about three conditions I think it is. He has cataplexy, narcolepsy and believe it or not it's actually called... restless leg sydrome. Basically the syndrom makes his legs... hyper? when he stays still for prolonged periods. Cataplexy is a disorder were roughly 10,000 brain cells die or something along those lines. So if he show high signs of emotion like crying or laughing he become paralyzed for around 20 seconds but he is fully concious... just can't move anything. And the narcolepsy makes him fall asleep at random times with no triggers. A mixture of all these has him on A LOT of pills/tablets and causes him to have bad nights still but it has become more managable. I'd sugguest you visit the doctor just incase it IS any of these.

Try eating some foods high on the Glycemic Index (foods that make you sleepy) at least four hours before bed. Some of these foods include: French bread, Pretzels, watermelon, honey, red baked potato. These foods should make you sleepy/sleep better when eaten before bed. Also maybe you should try doing some cardio exercises to kind of ware you out and make you sleep well. Hope this helps!

I've been an insomniac for quite some time now. Though antihistamines will indeed put you out - I don't recommend going down that route as no medication is meant to be taken on a daily basis.

From the way you described it, you might have a case of anxiety which can be treated various ways. I recommend researching it on Google.

I wish you luck, honestly I do. I still suffer from it so I can relate to how you feel.

I have this problem too, it often takes me until 2 or 3 am in the morning to finally fall asleep (I go to bed at around 11 most days). I'm going to the doctor soon because I'm convinced I have restless legs and it's half the reason why I toss and turn and am unable to feel tired.

Exercise is also a good way, tires your body and mind, but I have little to no time or interest to go to the gym during my exams, so I haven't been as well rested for months.

Usually happens during puberty so if you're at that age it makes sense

You lie down in bed and just can't fall asleep
