Longboarding

A Longboard, is a variant of a skateboard, unlike a skateboard its been specifically designed for transport, although you can do "tricks" on it. It's growing very fast here in New Zealand, especially among Uni Students.
After my friend showed me this video I was instantly converted from skating.



It just looks so relaxing and free. The sliding looks insane.. Although I stil havent bought one yet. Stil not fully convinced yet, deciding whether I upgrade on my deck or buy a longboard.

Any of you own a Longboard or been cruising before?

 

Jah jah.
I have owned multiple longboards - bamboo, raised tail, pin tail, shorter boards with the same longboard shape and riding style... about 8 in total over the last 6 years. I can honestly say I prefer it over any other type of board - and it's my favorite pass-time next to surfing. I commonly visit my local skate bowl, and in New Zealand (as you may know) there are many many long smooth well-sealed roads for bombing and carving. I've never been one for convincing posts, so here's a video that I think would sell the idea to you:

 

I have never heard of that, so that is really fun?

 

It's much easier than skateboarding. The bigger board is less likely to wobble from side to side. (at least what I've experienced)

 

I've seen a few people with them at my school. Never been too interested though since there aren't really any open roads to ride them around here.

 

You don't really need really flat surfaces to ride a longboard since they have huge wheels.

 

Cheers for the vid, that was mean. You got me. What type of board do you suggest a beginner to get? My mate keeps telling me to get a pintail, but I'm not sure...

You could always just use it for transport? I stil hit most of the roads on my skateboard, it aint that dangerous.
