Any reason why Blizzard doesn't allow spaces, punctuation or numbers in names?

I heard there was a chance that blizzard would allow this in Cataclysm, can't be sure though.

Your character's name is meant to be it's name, not it's username. Allowing numbers and whatnot would make it a username.

It'd be stupid anyways I don't want to see XxXEm0CUTt3r xXX or like HARDcore32643b@l3r - it's supposed to be a name.

    Looks stupid and childish also.

Although I guess if they did let us do that we could easily pick out the <12 years olds easily and avoid them.

Spaces would make since. Guild Wars doesn't allow numbers either.

Spaces would be great, Numbers would just ruin it.

Plus, having no spaces etc means people have to be creative.

haha, i like the way it is now... Especially the fact you can't put numbers in it.
Makes it more original, and they also allow those funky keys at least with the dots on top, my numpad is broken now, so i cant show u one but im sure u know what i mean :)

Blizzard maybe thinks its unique or likes to keep it neat haha.. ask them ;D

1 space should be allowed though don't you think? All the good names are taken, there's like on average 30k-50k characters per realm.

Well, if that happen, we would see multiple of people almost looking the exact same, because "that name is just soooo cool".

Names are meant to be names... spaces would cause scammers, spammers, etc as it would be hard to guess how many spaces are inbetween words, like RS....

But all the good names are taken. It's hard to be original now.
