trying to earn money, better ways?

hey guys, this summer i was planning on getting a job of sorts because if i dont, ill just be sitting on my butt doing pretty much nothing all summer. And besides, its a little extra cash towards, say, a car when i turn 16, college funds etcetera. im only 14 right now, but i have my working papers.
I know a guy who knows a farmer who recently lost his helper (they went to college) and he needs help now. I figured i could do that, but i heard people who do that actually make less than minimum wage. Irregardless, its better than no income, and i cant seem to find other work other than small jobs my family members want done (eg. paint a shed, weed a garden, etcetera.) So my question for you is should i go after the farming job, or should i look for something else like a paper route, or even mowing lawns ( there is a town nearby where i live which is full of wealthy but somewhat lazy people who want lawns mowed i heard)

So, I don't know where you're from, but i'm from the UK so i'm going to go by that basis.
Firstly, in the UK you must be 17 to drive, may be different where you are, if so, I apologize.
Secondly, also in the UK you must be 16 to legally have a job unless it's like a paper round. If you can get the farmers assistance, get it, even if it's payed less that minimum wage, you can't actually earn minimum wage until you can legally get a job. If I were you, depending on the hours with the farmer, you could also get a paper round, as they are early morning. I'm pretty sure you won't be working 7 days a week, so maybe you could also mow lawns in your spare time.
Either way, take what oppurtunities you can!

well, i live in new york (US) and i can legally do farmwork/delivery now so long as i have my papers which i do. Also, i do have to be 16 to get my driving permit, but i cant get a licence until im 18.
im probably going to go with the farmer though, and if i think i can do more, ill go to my postal office for a paper route i guess. i dont mind waking up early, and i have a bike that i can take. My town i live in is small so transportation shouldnt be too much of a problem if i take the paper route.

You could always do the farming job and then do mow the lawns and things on the week end :p
But I'd say while you have the farming job, keep looking for other jobs and you might get a better paid job :)

It is good to hear that you are quite ambitious and sound like a very hard worker for a 14 year old :)

I don't know what it is like where you live, but out here you have to be at least 16 to get most entry level student/summer jobs (fast food restaurant, grocery store, construction/landscaping etc). If you are not old enough to work somewhere on the books, you could always network and ask around and try to score a job with a friend of a friend. The farming job sounds like maybe it is a good lead for that sort of thing?

Another fantastic way to start building your resume when you are too young to work on the books, is to do odd jobs for family, neighbors, or friends. I started out doing small babysitting jobs, yard work, paper routes, mowing lawns etc until I was old enough to go apply for a real job. It was a great way to start earning some pocket change and learning how to save & spend at a young age. Good work experience too :)

well, youre right about those jobs i cant get until i turn 16. Well, with the possible exception of the restaurant. I talked to a local restaurant, and they said i could bus tables/ do dishes when i turn 15, although they would prefer to hire someone who was 16 they said. I have been doing family jobs of that sort, but i wanted something less sporadic. The family jobs just come to me when they need to get done, and i wanted a job where there was always something to get done, otherwise i would get bored because when im doing nothing, i get bored quite fast.

well Like Fire, i used to play runescape, but i was never any good at it. The most ive ever made in rs is 4m, which isnt alot in real currency. I stopped playing for a while, then i turned to botting for a while. Basically i dont think playing runescape will get me very far with this. I might be able to buy 60 cents/m sell 70 cents/m but im kinda low on cash irl which is why i wanted to get a job in the first place. meh, might as well try using simba again.

The GP scene looks good, but what Like Fire failed to mention was that once $400 profit has been made you're required to file taxes. Those taxes eat profits like they are dinner.

As of right now, since you're 14, a good idea might be to start an account shop. Use Simba (if you choose) to build characters to high levels and sell them for PayPal or another form of currency.

I was in your same situation a few years ago. I was 15 and had no way to make money. Luckily, we were in the process of redoing our house, so I was payed to work in the house.
    Best of luck to you!

So, if i sold $400+ worth of gp, i would have to file taxes? odd. But thats kind of a good idea, an account shop might work.

Ofcourse there are taxes.. You will have to pay taxes for online money making dude.
About every land across the world has it, and if I'm not mistaking its about 20 - 30% of your profit.

But meh I don't think they will come and look for you under a few thousand dollars..
