    Computer building advice ASAP!

Hey! I'm going to be building a computer

    -using newegg

-want it to look cool, but functional as well.

-23" HD monitor - haven't picked one yet.

-approx. $750 CURRENT budget - I'll be getting more within a month or so.

I just want something built to play Skyrim on the 11th. I don't know how anything works, I just want to PLAY it without lag. not much else is important. I have a mouse but need EVERYTHING else.

A friend is helping build, but any advice is needed! Links to parts, advice, etc.

    Thanks so much!

Your current budget is 750$, you are getting more in a month or so. So what is it that you are wanting to do? Build a computer now for 750 then do what with the money you have in a month or so?

Or are you wanting to save and then use all of it to get something?

If you're including the monitor in the budget, get more money.

$600 for a computer is jack shit.

I'd go minimum $700ish for the tower alone.

I just need to build and run that game on a computer right now. I can spend up to $500 towards December for an additional monitor and more stuff. I have the 750 as a like for now thing. MAYBE 950, doubt it though

If you have no knowledge about computers, don't bother planning to build it yourself considering it'd be much easier to simply purchase a desktop computer (including the screen) rather then in separate parts.

However if $750 is your maximum budget, then I'm afraid your wish for a 23" might diminish as they cost a minimum of $200, therefore you'll only have around $500-$550 on the tower. But hopefully that should be enough for a computer capable of playing Skyrim.

Went to go on newegg, tis a no go for me(check the internet speed thread for my current speed. ._.)

    General parts you should use for $600ish would be;
Phenom II x4 or Athlon II x4
500gig hdd or less(prices are really inflated atm and a 1tb is outta your budget atm)
    AM3 mobo
amd 6770, 6790, 6850, or 6870 depending on what you can fit in(not sure on US prices D: )
550w antec, corsair, seasonic, silverstone psu.
    any dvd drive rly.
any case with atleast a 120mm intake, and 120mm exhaust MINIMUM(antec 300 is a good case not sure on price, maybe $50?)
    4gig ddr3 ram.

Thanks. Might double the ram, but that looks like a solid option.

Eww AMD, Intel runs a lot better from my experience with AMD so if possible I'd go with them..

AMD are OK processors. Just that their don't give out the best performance as Intel do. Also AMD are processors for people who are on a low/tight budget. But I think he may have gone on the reviews on newegg.com about the processor to buy as it does have 5 star rating from most of the reviews.

My opinion would to try and get a Intel processor if you can unless your on a low budget.

8gb of ram is like $50. Silly to not just get 2x 4gb sticks to at least take advantage of the dual channel..

Just suck it up and throw down 200 bigs on a good proc.
