And what drugs are they taking? It will take much longer than 50 years of even exponential processing growth until we have a super computer capable of such simulations. Not to mention the memory it'd take...
I doubt in 50 years we'd even be able to simulate a single entity in a small town, let alone a complete universe full of beings.
The fact that this concept never occurred to him until he talked to some philosopher just shows his inexperience in this train of thought. This ideas has been around for decades...
So he apparently has no technological experience to figure any kind of possibility/probability. And he apparently has no scientific experience to recognize subatomic complexities. Because it'd seem to me that the exponential growth of advanced civilizations would would cause much more "logistical problems" than the perpetual virtual simulations.

I think it's far less likely. And my opinion is better than his.

tbh, i don't believe it, how can me, with feelings, typing on a computer, with the ability to feel love, to get angry, etc etc be in a hard drive of sorts? i have broken bones, it hurts like a bitch, here is my philosiphy, look at a robot, a really damn advanced ones, it can only be programmed so far, AI only does so much, love is the one true think in theory, that it cannot feel, maybe you've never been in love, idk, i have, and its a strong feeling that a circuit and wires, and RAM etc cannot feel, theoretically, i dont even think its possible, in my opinion of him, he has watched the matrix too many times, but so have i lol, its a good movie but for something like that to exist in real life is just too much for a person to comprehend, and what cruel said, there is no way in hell 50 years will bring that much power, the fastest possible speeds right now with super computers cooled by liquid nitrogen are probably 100 processors @ maybe 6 ghz? so a combined total of 600 ghz (i could be way off, shot in the dark) for the theory, that wouldn't be enough for a single cell to function

also, instead of a philosical standpoint, look at a pure science standpoint:

we have cells, we have trillions of atoms, your saying all that is programmed into our AI??? there is just no possible way for this to all work

this also almost goes to saying like what if our universe is just a cell on a giant that is xyz??? why the fuck would we have cars, houses, so many etc's??? if you look at the world, look at how our bodies, how animals work, there is nothing pointless, the only pointless things you may find are things that are not done evolving...

based on your previous statements, its the equivlent of a hard-drive, a computer does not think, it processes, but it doesnt feel

for the record: it is a very interesting idea and concept, i do see how small pieces of it could be true/happen when our tech = 2000000000x what it is today... but for me sitting on my chair, having feelings, breathing, eating, shitting, etc, i just do not see it possible, nor is there anything more then theoretical evidence that has not even been proved to be possible to the smallest degree whatsoever

 

Yeah, but it obviously isn't our intelligence that is making us if this were true. There are possibly billions of universes, who knows what out there.
