So how do I warn people?

I'm just wondering how do you warn potential dealers from someone you feel is a bit fishy?

    http://sythe.org/showthread.php?p=8756550#post8756550

    .

The person registered a few days ago and has 9 posts. He wants you to go first in a real life deal, without the option to use a MiddleMan.

Now, common sense might tell someone that this is fishy but as we all know, that has never stopped people from being scammed before from similar situations (especially in the upgrades section).

So, as a warning, I posted this on the thread -

It got infractioned as spam. Not complaining about that, I am just wondering if there's any alternate way to warn vulnurable people in similar cases? I mean, understandable if people don't want to go first, but not wanting to use an MM/OMM aswell, there should be some kind of warning to potential dealers atleast...

Believe it or not, people have the ability to think for themselves without having everybody going around, yelling at any post that isn't perfect.

You can also just request an IP check of that person. I'd be happy to look up anybody who seems fishy.

So how do I warn people?

I personally dont see another way of warning others, especially since most of those kinds of post ask them to add them onto MSN, so you cant see what else they are saying.

Give it up. If a trader lacks the intelligence to make a guess on whether X is trustworthy or not, I believe he deserves to be scammed so that he learns his lesson.

This situation was a bit steep, 600-700m loss to scamming is a hard blow. Aswell as new members there's also alot of guests who view these forums and decide to add people, knowing very little about trading precautions.

And fair to say, it is the new members (who lack the experience) that are the biggest victims.

Not really yelling at them, but just warning others to be careful. But judging by your post, I guess it is hopeless.

I think it is fishy though, when you join a couple of days ago, have 0 vouches, have about 10 posts, and then ask the person (no matter who they are) to go first to you without even giving them the option to use a MM/OMM.

I understand Sythe doesn't want to implement any kind of restrictions on new people, but I do wish there was a way to make people more alert of the obvious and common dangers they face.

Write a thread, warning new members of scams and such. There's not nothing you can do to stop people from being scammed.

By the way, if you had just asked me to IP check the guy, he would have been banned hours ago. I issued a ban for evasion when you made this thread.

Most people aren't dumb enough to fall for that (with exceptions)

Just PM a moderator for a IP check. It's ridiculous that people get criticized for being a scammer because they don't want to go first. Some newcomers don't even know what a OMM is. (even though this case he was a ban evader......)

"DONT TRADE WITH THIS MOTHAFUCKA HE A SCAMMA TRYING TO SCAM UR GOLD!!!"
Best way to warn people, imo.

But really, just request an IP check on them, and leave it be.
Or, add them on msn, and get them trying to "scam" you and do a scammer report on it for a TWC>

Actually, Christmascracker's suggestion about coaxing them into admitting fishy stuff on MSN is perfectly fine. I'm not going to censor out words that the person typed, himself. I'm only obligated to censor baseless accusations.

I encourage traders to post their personal experiences dealing with more delusive users. You're allowed to post feedback, but not accusations. Try to be polite and let users draw their own conclusions.

    For instance:

    Acceptable

I wanted to trade Bob, but he was rushing the trade and refused to use any middleman. Going first wasn't an option for him but was the only choice he gave me. He says he wants to be cautious which is understandable I suppose...

    Not acceptable

Bob didn't want to use a middleman, highly suspect, trade with caution.

I was just about to post something like this. :'( :'(

A warning post probably won't be regarded as spam if you're using first hand experience as a basis for the accusation. :)

I think his point is that you cann't say "Trade with Caution with this guy, folks; he's almost surely a scammer!" The only thing you are allowed to say is reminders of how to trade smart.

So how do I warn people?

If the title is buying 50m via PP , i tend not to try an warn others, but when i see a bloke with 4 posts, BUYING ALL GOLD @ $0.90 via PP, i just feel obliged to tell others about the risks of charge backs an such.

I have refrined a few times only to re-visit the posts an see countless people scammed and i feel that even thought sometimes i and the others MAY be wrong, shouldnt prevention be better then cure. I understand that simply writing TWC due to having 3 posts is unacceptable but if you wrote something along the lines of "Just take note, his new an overpriced, charge backs can occur with paypal and theres no way to protect yourself from them..) or something like that, is that acceptable or would you just note it down as spam ?

EDIT: Also if you add the supposed scammer, and try an milk them for information or bait them into scamming you, this could be harmful for you also as the only way most scammers share ect.. if from you admitting or giving them tips and this could turn around an end up giving you a TWC.

In most cases, you can actually tell around 80% of time time if the person is going to try and scam. Well that goes for people who still have their common sense in tact.

Honestly, the only way to ever know is through experience of being scammed. No other way : / I had to go through it, I'm sure a lot of us had to go through it. You learn from experience.
