    My First GFX needs rating!

Okay guys, so I just made some GFX in Photoshop CS5. Can you rate them and give me constructive criticism on how to improve my skills? These are my very first GFX, so bare in mind I'm not as good as you all, and don't understand some concepts like depth, abstract, rule of the third.

Well, I am going to start by saying that I am not going to take it easy on you because it doesn't improve you any.

First you need to read tutorials, devour them, and by that I mean read all of them that you can for your program. Follow them, but not to the letter take the techniques and craft your own style with them.

About the sig, it is not that great. I mean its not even really that good for a first try. Its too chaotic, there is no flow, the depth is lacking, and there is no focal. You need to decide if you want it to be an abstract or if you want it to be typographical or a mix, but you need a focal. Your text doesn't hit any power points, which are composed by the Rule of the Third which you also need to read up on. RotT are important to impart flow and depth in a tag and to arrange components of a tag.

    I hope this helped some,
    Nero.

Sure sure, I understand (I think?). Again, I would like to plead first GFX, and I guess I was more focused on making something than making something good. I also made another one, it probably has many of the same problems as the first. Uploading now.

Not bad for a first Signature! It looks a bit blurry to me though.
But keep up the good work!

Not too bad, my first GFX piece was a lot worse.

I'm not the best GFX'er out, so my advice wouldn't be too great.

Keep at it, practice is the key to succession.

What is the point in making something if you are not trying to make it the best you can personally make it. Just go find and read a lot of tutorials and you will eventually get better. Technique and practice is the key to success in GFXing. We can't tell you exactly what you need to do, that is where you have to take personal time to study and learn. The more you learn about the artistic elements and terms, such as depth, flow, abstract, focal, Rules of the Third and learn how to utilize them - you will see a big jump in quality of work. A big point is to not act childish if/when someone points out flaws in your work, go and look at tutorials or .psds that have the content you need to learn in them and adapt their technique for the part that was wrong in your last tag and make a new one.

Obviously everyone can use some improvement in what they do, even the greatest artists of all time seek to further enhance their skills.

That aside, constructive criticism is a lot different than simply telling someone they can do better and pointing out their flaws. Take a minute and think of your first piece of art, you thought it was great, you knew it could be improved upon with time and effort but you were proud of yourself nonetheless and desired to show someone what you could do.

A little bit of positive reinforcement goes a long way, if you are great at something you should seek to help others while also complimenting them and taking a look at their work as it is. Art is unique and no one can tell another that their art is wrong. A suggestion on how someone can improve their art is only worth something if the artist being critiqued see's any value in the response. Lend a hand, not a blade.

    I like you.

And yes, your graphics are good for a new person. I don't think my graphics are all the great yet. But hey, I'm workin' on it.

I think you used a little to much in those signitures. Simple is NOT bad.
No one likes an art piece if it's overcrowded and too chaotic like Emperor_Nero said before.

I hope I helped also. Just keep up the work. Your not doing anything to hurt anyone by making what you like to do.

    I like to inspire! :)
