You know, it's not half bad! You should be more mindful of where your light-source is, in accordance to highlights and shadows on your render. In this case, it would serve better if it were in the lower right corner. Look at the highlights and shadows on his face, it just doesn't look natural with your light-source positioning.

You should also work on blending. Tools like smudge, blur, clipping masks, even eraser tool if it's used right helps you with blending.

If you REALLY want to make the best of mutli-layer graphics, you should also work on getting good with gradient maps and photofilters. They will help you with unifying your color scheme so that it doesn't look so haphazard.

Lastly, focal placement. Your focal is what draws the eye, in this case (and most other cases) the render you used is the focal. If you offset it a little, maybe even tilt it to help with flow, it will look more appealing than smack dab in the center. Also, the cars "+" shape on the left draws attention away from the focal, not much you can do but smudge it though, or put your render closer to it..

Anyway, it looks good for a first attempt, KIU!

    He said it all ^

On a side note, dont let anyone discourage you from doing tutorials, they are the best ways to learn and get better. After a while, you take what you've learned and start making some really nice stuff. Just thought Ide throw that out there. :p

And that's fine! It's hard to memorize all the tools and their functions, but even harder to learn to apply them, and the best way I found to help you with both of them is just keep following a bunch of different kinds of tutorials. Also, don't worry about copying tutorials stroke-for-stroke the first few times, you'll be able to make something original in no time!

www.tutorialized.com was my favorite source for photoshop (and 3DS MAX) tutorials.

This was actually a GIMP production =] Photoshop I found to be far too complex for my level of care for intricacy.
