How do I enable the microphones on this laptop?

I've had this laptop for a couple of years now and I've never quite figured out how to turn it on. It's a built-in microphone and for some reason, I can't quite get it to work.

The laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6736nr Entertainment Notebook PC if it matters.

It might be turned off in your control panel.

Control panel-->Sounds and audio devices-->Audio/voice
On sound recording, go on volume and turn it up fully. If not maybe your laptop is like mine, it's microphone is very quite. Go on test hardware and test it, sometimes you have to go really close to the screen and almost shout at it.
If it still doesn't work you can buy a cheap microphone in a shop for around $10.

Taking it to an electronics store and letting them examine it seems like a good idea.

Has it ever accidentally fallen on the floor before? I remember when my old laptop's mic got fucked when my dad dropped it.
