Musical Instruments: What do you play?

I play a few instruments. The guitar of course, piano, harmonica, drums (light beats), and banjo.

I started my musical journey at age 9 with the cello, however I don't know how to play it anymore. My focus was quickly taken by the guitar.

For a few years now my guitar has been in the case, under the bed. A few months ago I woke a sleeping lion and I've been playing and writing every day. I'm buying a 3 bedroom home in six months and have plans to turn the spare bedroom into a personal sound studio.

The passion has overtaken me and recently has given me a welcoming relief from gambling and gaming and drinking. My vices are being redirected into this amazing art and I feel so peaceful.

My influences in music are indie folk(City and Colour/Bon Iver/Matt Nathanson), some acoustic emo-punk (Taking Back Sunday/Brand New/Bayside), and softer rock.

Does anyone else play or produce music? I'd love to hear about your style and connect with some people who share my interests!

 

I've never actually owned a guitar, but I guess I "play". First song I ever learned was Adam's Song. I've borrowed my friend's guitar and self taught from YouTube. I'm really into finger picking. Some of the more complex songs I've learned that stemmed away from chords are Stairway to Heaven, Tears in Heaven, Hey There Delilah. I don't know why I've never bought a guitar because it's so relaxing. I only play acoustic and I love TBS as well. When it comes to music, I dip into a bit of everything. I've even learned an acoustic version of Love the Way You Lie.

It's pretty crazy but I actually have learned every song you just named.

I'm really into fingerpicking as well. Some of the harder ones I've learned have been Day Old Hate by City and Colour, Angeles by Elliott Smith, First Day of my Life by Bright Eyes, I will follow you into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie, and New American Classic by Taking Back Sunday.

I really only play acoustic as well, on a Takamine G Series Jumbo with pearl inlay

 

That's really awesome man. I had a sax at my parents house and I asked about it two nights ago. Turns out they dropped it at Goodwill I was speechless. The scrap money on a brass instrument is worth not donating it.

 

Wow, thats awesome man! What's crazier is I've actually started learning I will follow you into the dark, still have yet to perfect it but is such a good sounding song. I wanted to learn Angeles as well, love that song. Elliot Smith is real good. I'm jealous of your guitar. Bet is sounds so clean. I've always used Yamaha's so I'll probably grab a nice one of them when I finally break down and get a guitar. Cool to see similar music interest

 

I've played the bass for about 8 years now. Haven't played in about 6 months though.

 

Pick it up back up man!

 

Gotta buy a new AMP and replace a couple of strings on my bass, don't have the money for it right now so i may pick it back up next year.

I've played the drums since I was 6. My Dad grew up learning and having a passion for them, but I was pretty much born into it.

 

Drums are the one instrument that I wish I was better with. They are such an important part of music.

I used to play the bass guitar when I was in my teenage years, but haven't really bothered with it much just a hobby I stopped however have recently been tempted to start playing again.

 

I took piano lessons when I was young. I haven't played in a long time and I'm rusty as of now.

 

Tuba / Piano / Violin , Went to someone high up concerts with the Tuba, got offered a living doing that however I love stocks and wall street to much...

 

Electric bass and guitar, I dabble with the drums and keys, but the first two are my primaries.
