Who will take the 2010 FIFA World Cup?

There is a hell of a lot of Football (Soccer for all you Americans >_< ) discussion going around the forums.

Something i'd like to hear opinions on is who will take the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The 2 teams I will be watching closely are England and Argentina.

Argentina have got THE best football player in the world (Messi,) not to mention a few other great players.

England had a fantastic qualifying campaign. However, I believe there world cup will be heavily relied on Rooney. Remembering the 2004 European championships where Rooney went out through Injury, and the 2006 FIFA World Cup where he was red carded, then England going on to lose those matches.

Also, I would LOVE to see Australia go well. We had a good cup in 2006, but we need to prove it wasn't a one off.

 

Argentina has Messi. That does NOT mean they will take it all the way to the top. Although they have a very good chance of making it.

England's squad is pretty much tearing it up, no matter who they play; always winning their games by 3+ goals.

Brazil has a very experienced team and they're a top competitor at the moment.

Spain has the scoring machine, David Villa, and he will not quit until his team has made it to the World Cup.

These 4 teams, in my opinion, have a very good shot at the World Cup this year. As one of the most entertaining tournaments in the world, anything could happen this year. Looking forward to it.

 

I honestly didn't think of Spain, seeing there European championship victory 2 years ago was very impressive, so yes, they are a thread.

Haha, as an American, how do you think USA will go?

 

I don't know much about national teams but I am rooting for Spain.

 

USA's playing style, is mediocre, but it won't compare to the more experienced team. USA plays, in my opinion, pretty lousy and their gameplay is very slow.

They'll be lucky to get past the first round.

 

They did manage to get to the finals in the 2009 Confederation cup. I wouldn't rule them out yet, the United States football team is pretty unpredictable.

Can you post why you believe this?

 

England and maybe Germany.

England because my Countrey.

Germany because they won the 2004 Euro's.

I hope England though.

 

Germany, Portugal and probably Brazil.

Germany because I love their defense.
I think England'll only make it to semi finals this year. I don't like their line up.

Brazil because they have all the good players

I also want to see Spain win though.

The Germany defense has never been strong. The defense usually gets torn apart by the other team. But I really like their defense.

I hope they win. The last world cup was disappointing.

 

That's true, and like I said, the World Cup is a unpredictable sport with many outcomes. In my opinion, they still won't be able to go past the first round.

Germany has a very great defense, but it won't make up for their shitty offence. Portugal doesn't have a very good chance compared to Brazil, England, and teams like that. Brazil, I agree with you. They have probably one of the most experienced squads right now and they won't stop until they get to the finals.

 

They did make the Semi-Finals, much better then i predicted.

 

I expected them to win the world cup to be honest. Portugal was also a disappointment. How could they lose?!

 

Yeah, Semi-Finals too.

It'll be harder for them to back that this year, with Pauleta gone now.

I would also like to see Mexico doing a good job, 'cause i'm tired of the same shit of not getting to the quarter finals... My results for the group of mexico are
South Africa 0 - 2 Mexico, France 0 - 1 Mexico (Kinda unprobable, but i still think, mexico will win), Uruguay 0 - 1 Mexico

also Hahanerd, USA's got a very fucking easy group, except England, i think USA will easily pass to the second round...
